Driving by this morning I noticed that the Grand Opening date on the sign has changed to Wednesday the 17th.

There's a thread for Shop & Save.pudgym29 wrote:Woo. Nobody else has remarked that the former Dominick's @ Milwaukee | Devon | Nagle in Chicago reopened as a "Shop & Save Market"? [6312 N. Nagle Ave.]

BuddyRoadhouse wrote:One has to wonder about the accuracy of this article. There is indeed a "Shop 'n Save" chain based out of St. Louis. They even have a few locations in downstate Illinois. However, they aren't associated with the "Shop & Save" markets found in the Chicago area. Adding to the confusion, before realizing the mistake and editing the article, the writer lists the owners as "Pick 'n Save", which is the lower end Wisconsin based grocer owned by Roundy's, who also own Mariano's. Confusing enough?
I'll wait until the sign goes up on the front of the building to find out who owns the place. Although I'll likely never be in that area, at least not to grocery shop, so it won't matter anyway.
FWIW, if in fact it's the St. Louis based "Shop 'n Save", as opposed to the locally owned "Shop & Save", I wouldn't get too excited about new grocery blood in town. They're closer in character to Wisconsin's budget oriented "Pick 'n Save" and probably won't add much to the market.

Not sure I'm following, can you explain? The 'neighborhood groups' wanting eminent domain? Taking over the space after a new business moved in?

They can't take over the leased space, but they still want Chicago to buy it from existing ownership via ED and lease it to African American business owner who couldn't afford it. Obviously, they plan to boycott newcomer Shop'nSave and put it out of biz.
The last remaining vacant Dominick’s site in Chicago will become a Shop and Save this fall, bringing a full-service grocery store to what has become a food desert in the South Shore neighborhood.

Technically Northbrook is vacant again, as it was a Caputo's for a while.

We've been getting its flyer in our Red-something-or-another packets for the last four weeks. Nothing exemplary as far as pricing goes. [edit]
