I can heartily recommend (along with a few other folks who post here) Lindsay Shepherd, formerly a pastry chef at Bristol working for Amanda Rockman, currently owner of
Sugarloaf Bakery, who prepares custom cakes, pies, tarts, etc. for private clients. She is awesomely talented and, I think, very reasonably priced. The last few times I've ordered from her, I just gave her very basic preferences and she created something incredibly delicious. She is located at Damen and Wilson so not sure the location would work for you but worth a call. Here is a pic of the vanilla bean flecked cake with fresh blueberries, ginger syrup between the layers and ginger buttercream icing that she came up with for a friend's birthday earlier this week. The cake fed 15+ (!!!!) people for $45. All I told her was that the birthday girl wanted something on the lighter side, with summer fruit and she doesn't love citrus.
