It’s driving me crazy, aside from wanting to make that cornbread, where this place was and whether it’s still around.
Thanks!
He also is opening Hamburger Stan's here as well.spinynorman99 wrote:sujormik wrote:There was a place on the north side, I want to say near Iriving Park east of the Kennedy. The pickles and custard-filled cornbread sounds like Jared Leonard's now-closed BBQ Supply Co. in Rogers Park. The cornbread recipe was from the Marion Cunningham editions of the Fannie Farmer cookbook (Google custard-filled cornbread, the recipe is reposted in lots of locations). Leonard relocated the BBQ concept to Denver but he now has The Budlong hot chicken restaurants in Chicago.

sujormik - Was the restaurant you had the cornbread at a BBQ place? BBQ Supply Co was on Western Ave. It was called RUB's Backcountry Smokehouse back in 2010 when it opened.

It was definitely not a barbecue place. Dark lighting, booths, burgers.
And it was closer to 25-30 years ago, not 10.

The Red Star Inn? But it was just west of the Kennedy.
