    Hi,

Just wanted to prove I passed the registration process.

As for the wine, I haven't a clue. Though all the bottles I brought back from Czech Republic have been well received and in total I spent less than $50 for about 7 different varieties.

    Thanks Gary for including me.

    Regards,
    CAthy2

I'm not a wine drinker so I am unable to help. However, it is nice to know I passed the registration process.

okay, I am in as well.

as to wine: actually, the mayor's chosen alternate forum (not to be confused with his self-publishing venture) Opinonated About is most useful when it comes to wine, imo. I have avoided red burgundy for a while because of price and the volume of truly mediocre stuff one can get for one's $30 or more. But OA has given me some info that causes me to feel like I can venture in, again.

This was posted by Claude Kolm of the Fine Wine review:

"My off-the-top-of-my-head list of Bourgogne rouge producers to look for (in no particular order):

    de Villaine
    Lafarge
    Barthod
    Groffier
    G. Roumier
    Méo-Camuzet (but will be pricey)
    Drouhin
    Chevillon
    Faiveley (in good years)
    de Montille
    de Courcel
    Arnoux"

    end of quote

I suspect you can find something by some of these producers in the $30 range, but have not begun to look (have too much wine in the basement already. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the list DD: into the palm it goes.

RST has started to give me an email correspondence course in red burgundy; maybe he'll post it to LTH? Richard are you reading this thread?

Why do I find a thread that is dated before the board existed with posts that I did make but not to this board, so, well, disorienting?

In any case, isn't this under the wrong topic?

And I actually had a very pleasant Burgundy tasting a week or so ago and could get notes and share, but I am not sure Seth is really asking, and I appear to have answered, and.... I am dizzy.

Yeah, it's under the wrong topic now, but that one didn't exist then.

That was the time of the REALLY soft launch.

    D,

You joined the lthforum in Feb of 04, check the member list. Maybe you should lighten up on the vino if you really don't remember.

We made a few posts and put it on the back burner until recently.

    Enjoy,

Nope. I am only distressed that I have been forced to confront forgotten flotsam of my past.

Trader Joe's has (or had last week) a pleasurable Calif Pinot for $6.99 - Black Mountain Painted Ridges.

Sam's has a decent burgundy on sale (again last week, anyway) 2001 Jean Garaudet Pommard Noixons at $22.

You must report on this cultural delight. I have fond memories of seeing a 90 year old Benny Goodman at the cultural center on Miami Beach - a very old man with no chops left, performing for very old people remembering...

FWIW, I think with Burgundy in particular it's really helpful to have an ongoing relationship with a wine merchant you like. Try a bottle, give some feedback, keep exploring new recs based on responses to previous ones. My buddy for these things is Howard Silverman, formerly of Sam's, now of Howard's on Belmont. He has very strong opinions, but he doesn't try to up-sell you, and he doesn't try to make you like what he likes.

Something you might look at as a strategy for staying in on price point: look into the beefier cru Beaujolais: Morgon, Moulin a Vent. These can really have some heft and take some age in a burgundian way without the typical Burgundy price always attached. (They're not cheap, they're just not La Tache, et. al.)

I know others have been happy at Wine Discount on Elston, and there are plenty of Todd Hess fans at Sams. I don't know him, and find the general floor staff at Sam's way too variable to be worth betting actual $ on.
