    Hi,

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, there is a new Joong Boo Market location at Pulaski just south of Peterson, was once the Hi-Mart store. Where the Restaurant Depot now stands was once the Chicago Food Corp, which burned down some years ago. Joong Boo Market is immediately behind and next to Restaurant Depot, though you can access from a driveway just south of Restaurant Depot.

The evening Chicago Food Corp burned down in 2004, I was supposed to meet mushroom friends for dinner. In the 16 years since it burned, Chicago Food Corp has become Joong Boo Market. They now have the suburban location in Glenview, too.

If you happen to stop by the new-after-so-many-years location, they will give you a present of a chop sticks set and box disposable gloves. Since it has not yet been discovered, it is easy shopping. Lobster today was $7.77 per pound. It does not presently have any eat-in facility, though I hope that may change.

Elsewhere Louisa Chu offered some clarification on the Chicago Food Corp - Hi Mart and Joong Boo Market lineage: Hi-Mart was part of Joonboo/Chicago Food Corp. This location at Pulaski and Peterson is a rebranded Joong Boo market.

Cathy, thanks very much for this backgrounder!

I have to say that I was mixing up H Mart with Hi-Mart!
    You have put me right.
    For purposes of disambiguation:
H Mart is a Korean (mostly, but other Asian too) supermarket in Niles in the shopping center with the Home Depot.

It is not Hi-Mart :-) It has no relation to Joong Boo. Did I get it right?

As always the lovely Ms. Chu is spot on.

I've been going to this CFC/Joong Boo (Pulaski) since they opened after the fire and move. I was slightly confused by your post so I checked out the "new" Joong Boo on Pulaski today. They opened up the Huge back room warehouse to the public and filled it with grocery items including fresh fish, meat, dry goods, veg etc. Very cool. As C2 says, no lunch counter ~yet~

And not just any old gloves either. They’re Best of the LTH Glove.
