Many moons ago, when Burt Katz & I were neighbors in Skokie, he & I would have breakfast early Saturday mornings and then I'd accompany him on his weekly run to Restaurant Depot on Mannheim.
I admired their one-stop shop approach, and despite their perfunctory stocking of produce--which except for staples like potatoes & onions was less than satisfactory--was a perfect kind of place for a small store like his that couldn't afford filling up a Sysco truck.
Only thing I asked to buy in his name occasionally was a tub of ranch dressing, the same kind he used. The brand name escapes me but it came in a 3 lb vat, and was pretty damn good. And back in those days my kids would bathe in ranch dressing if it were socially acceptable.
It's almost worth a trip to check it out.
