What's your favorite dishwashing soap?

Hi- I usually only use Dawn when I wash dishes by hand. A bottle of it lasts me a lot longer than bargain brands. I never put my pots and pans in my dishwasher. The last time I was at Jewel on Monday, they were out of any dishwashing soap, and I was there at 9:00 am. I have been getting a lot more emails from America's Test Kitchen lately, and they have been supplying me with free recipes and other stuff they normally charge for. One of the emails I got from them today talked about their favorite cleaning supplies. Their favorite dishwashing soap is Mrs. Meyer's. Has anybody tried this? I assume I could get this right now at Whole Foods. It would be a little more expensive than what I normally pay for dawn, but I spent $52 on groceries at Jewel Monday, and I never spend that much. I did buy one package of toilet paper, and a bottle of petite calcium and vitamin D pills though. Right now I am not penny pinching as much as I normally do, because some of the stuff I buy is in short supply

I might stop in the Target in downtown Evanston today to see if they have dawn or even Mrs. Meyers on my way to Whole Foods and the bank. I need a roll of quarters to do laundry, and I need to see what Byline Bank is open. I would go to the drive up on Emerson, but it does not say if it is open, and the downtown Evanston branch you have to make an appointment to enter the lobby of the bank. Thanks, Nancy

My local Target has Meyer's. (Vernon Hills) My wife has been buying it exclusively for two years now and loves it. She gets one of the non-traditional scents, Basil.

Millen Hardware on Wilmette Ave. has a bunch of the different Meyers products. If you want to go there I would call ahead to make sure that they have the dish soap and not just the other cleaning products, but I think I have gotten it there.

LeMoi on Davis may be another possibility.

I would call first. I know they have some Meyer products at Millen. Just guessing they may have some at LeMoi.

Hi- I just went to LeMoi to get some dishwashing soap. They were super helpful, and were not very busy. I saw Dawn there, but did not see Meyer's there, and I was getting ready to leave so I could get it at Target, but then I noticed that it was located with the rest of the Meyer's products. It was a dollar more than Target, but the store only had three customers there, and I would rather give them my business. I got the basil one. I asked if they would rather I pay by credit, but they said they would take my money, but I decided it was just safer to pay by credit, and she did not have to touch it since I brought my own bag, but she cleaned the touch pad after I paid for my soap.

I'll be glad when this is over and we don't have to worry about who has touched something. When I was at Jewel on Monday I bought a pineapple, and normally I would look at several to see which one was riper, and I just picked one up and put it in my cart. Thanks, Nancy

My favorite dish liquid is Dawn as it cuts the grease from pots and dishes. In addition, it is one of the finest stain removers for garments out there.

Liquid Tide also does pretty well in washing dishes.

I have been a Dawn person almost forever. A little bit does go a long way. If you have some greasy water, it's fun to simply add a drop then watch all the grease migrate to the edges.

My prior cat seemed to be entertained watching someone in the neighborhood change their own oil. A few times she came home with black grease on her paws. I used Dawn to wash it out of her coat. While a useful service to the cat, it was not exactly appreciated. If anything, I was her enemy for a moment. No gratitude!

I think I had read Consumer Reports or Cook's Illustrated's love for Meyers. It is on my list of something to try someday, but it takes me a long time to use up any Dawn.

Consumer Reports likes Costco's Kirkland laundry detergent, but they really went bonkers over Tide Heavy Duty Liquid Laundry Detergent. They thought this Tide is excellent for use as pre-treatment. When I run low on laundry pre-treatment spray, I will purchase this Tide for pre-treatment and pair it with the Kirkland.

If I feel a need to pre-soak, then I typically use Biz for the enzyme boost. It is not easy to find, though it does an excellent job.

I am a DAWN person too. But that has nothing to do with cleaning power. I volunteer at the Shedd and know that DAWN is the cleaner of choice when they do cleanup after oil spills.

It strikes me that, since the whole hand-washing thing right now is because a virus has a protective oil coating and we want to dissolve it because then the virus dies, the better the grease-dissolving properties, the more effective the disease prevention. So it seems like that recommends Dawn. (Which I have used for as long as I can remember -- but now it sounds like an even better choice.)

I've used Dawn for years (Ajax when unavailable). My wife recently got a bottle of Mrs. Meyers as a "free gift" in a shipment of eco-friendly cleaning products. So I currently have Dawn and Mrs. Meyers side by side next to the sink. Dawn seems to be far better than Mrs. Meyers at cutting through grease and requires less soap to get the job done. On the other hand, Mrs. Meyers (orange clove scent) smells better. I'm perfectly happy to use the Mrs. Meyers but plan to buy Dawn in the future.

I seem to remember reading somewhere (maybe ATK or Consumer Reports) that Dawn has the highest concentration of surfactants of any dish soap, which is why it's the choice for cleaning wildlife after oil spills and performs well on greasy dishes.

We only use soaps that are not scented, which practically speaking means the 'eco-friendly' soaps. I just don't understand why almost every soap has to have some horrible scent that has absolutely no relationship to the scent they claim it is.

Most things go in the Bosch dishwasher with Miele dishwasher tabs (we only use 1/2 tablet at one time) and Miele rinse aid. We have used Dawn, for decades. Every so often we try a bottle of another brand, especially the newer, trendier brands (Method, Caldrea, Seventh Generation, Meyers, etc.). Always come back to Dawn, the superior cutting of grease is obvious. We have currently been buying the clear, eco-free lemon scent.

Hi- I was looking at the sale ads for this week which are thin, and I got an ad for Ace hardware, and they have Dawn on sale for $1.99 if you are a rewards member. If I knew that I would have gotten the Dawn instead. Le Moi did not have a shelf tag for the Dawn. I paid $4.99 for the Mrs. Meyer's.

I looked on their website, and CR has not tested dishwashing soap. They have tested dishwasher detergent. They also tested all purpose cleaners, and the only one they recommended was Pinesol. On the website they also have a lot of advice about dealing with the virus, and they have a lot of home made cleaning recipes. Most public libraries let you access Consumer Reports on line.

Menard's stores, which are open along with other hardware stores, have very good prices on household supplies. I get Ajax dish soap there cheaper than anywhere else.
