Hey there, honey. Mama's looking for some scotch. Something smoky. I don't want to buy shitloads of bottles and end up not liking them. Are there any bars in Chicagoland that are to scotch like Scofflaw is to gin?

    Thanks, you're a doll.

Great call -- and as I was just there last night -- I'd also add their sister bar, Bar on Buena, which has a very nice Scotch selection as well. And I have to say that at both places the staff is a bit friendlier than at Delilah's.

Love that they have a list of the scotches with the little legend next to each one. 7 pages! Yowza yowza! Friday's going to be delightful.

Mamma needs to schlep her-self over to Trader Joes,
and get a bottle of the very affordable Lismore (more commonly avail.@ Lincoln Avenue Store
    than the Roosevelt/Wabash Avenue location...
for under $20.00 you will not find a better Speyside dram to entice yer tounge.
Lismore is officially- a "wee"-lad, younger than most of the nicer Single Malts
(my current favorite is The Balvenie -Doublewood, also sold at TJ's for $58.00 a bottle)

Lemme know how ya like it!

Mama went to Twisted Spoke yesterday to take advantage of the 1/2 Price Deal (thank you Wimperoo!) Three scotches and guac for $42 including tip, not bad. According to Ruby (I talked to her via FB), they have 167 scotches. When you go in they give you a little catalog. Nifty!

Costco made me a few offers I couldn't refuse. I'm now the proud owner of:
    Balvenie Doublewood 17
    Deveron 18
    Aberfeldy 16
Stranahan's (from Colorado?? Whatever, it was cheap.)

These bottles were all clearanced out, and after cross referencing their clearance prices with Binny's online prices, I pounced.

Any scotch palates out there have thoughts on what I should expect when I crack these things open? My house brand is Balvenie Doublewood 12, or Balvenie Single Barrel 15. I don't have a sophisticated palate at ALL. Just wondering if anyone likes any of these new bottles I have to try, and to also give me some notes on what to expect, bad or good.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Jenny after three scotches, I'd be laughing uncontrollably and trying to jump into a fountain without my clothes. (it would not be a pretty sight).

{out of context} Stranahan's (from Colorado?? Whatever, it was cheap.)
Yes, Stranahan's is from a south collar suburb of Denver, CO. One year when I was credentialled into the Great American Beer Festival, for a Thursday afternoon they chaffeured a bunch of us {media types} to the Stranahan distillery. :|
