    All

The new GNR nomination cycle will begin on March 5. Since we missed 2017, all are welcome to nominate two restaurants/resources (separately) .

Looking forward to some great nominations.

Wow on the double-nomination possibility: The Chicago Way. Thanks for all of the work, Onur.

GNR Nominations will begin tomorrow and extend through Monday March 19th.

Please see this post for how to nominate a GNR. Remember that this year we will allow two nominations per person.

If there are any questions or concerns please pm me at any time.

General comment on this year's nominees and a plea to the GNR Committee. I understand the inclination is to add more restaurants to the GNR list each time the nominations are open, and that's doubly true this year since we skipped a year. Resist that pressure. I know we don't have minimum requirements for declaring a place to be a GNR, but at some point, there has to be a realization that if a place only has positive comments from 5-10 people despite being open for years or doesn't even have its own thread or whose nomination gets zero comments, awarding it an LTH GNR (as that's currently defined) seems awfully curious.

I disagree. G Wiv in the Renewals 2018 thread.
Looking at LTH GNR's from a strictly quantitative viewpoint seems seems a sterile perspective.

I hear you guys and I assure we want to keep standards high and avoid looking at posting without considering context. It is not easy to apply a consistent standard when posting record is the primary criteria but we do our best and I think the GNR list reflects that the process is mostly working as we would hope. The GNR committee is looking things over now and we'll be announcing results in the next couple weeks (hopefully). In the mean time, if anyone has suggestions for how to improve things for future years please speak up or send me a pm if you'd prefer.

    Thanks

Thinking about something my late friend Steven Shaw used to say, "suggesting is volunteering," it'd be great if you took the lead on this, Panther. Feel free to pen a draft of an updated announcement for the 2018 GNRs, which we can post to the Articles section of the website.
