viewtopic.php?f=14&t=36493I celebrated my birthday at Badou with a group of 12 friends, including Hellodali. We called ahead, and Badou said he would put together a meal. Having been there before, I trusted it would be great, and it sure was. Empanadas, chicken pasteles, mafe, djollof rice, whole red snapper, and lamb shank, all excellent. The specifics of many dishes have been well covered in the main thread, and everyone who has been to Badou’s place has enjoyed it.
We have had at least two more large group dinners there, with a mostly different menu than before, excepting the mandatory djollof rice. I have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants ever. Not only has all of the food been excellent, one really feels the warmth of having someone cook for you who truly loves what he does.
What makes this a GNR (besides the food) is Badou, his wife, and the other staff, who create a truly memorable evening. He has always been a most gracious host, coming out to explain each dish and chat with us and serve us from the family-style platters. It really is like eating in Badou's home. As long as you can relax and don't need to be anywhere, a dinner at Badou is a wonderful experience. For those of us who like to take our time over meals, it’s a great antidote for the hectic pace of normal American life.
Writing this has made me want to return ASAP for more of everything that Badou has to offer. Smiles guaranteed.

As others have noted, it is great as a vegetarian to have an ethnic restaurant that has such a large and delicious vegetarian menu. But the very casual vibe makes it feel like you are eating in someone's home and it is a unique gem in the city.

I can easily imagine going back here regularly. This restaurant combined with the Taste of Trinidad next door is a vegetarians delight!
The Mafe was really complex, spicy and haunting. What gave it the earthiness? Maybe bayleaves/oregano mix? It was fantastic.
