My future husband and I will be honeymooning in Jamaica in a couple of weeks, and while it may sort of defy logic, we'll be traveling by car from Treasure Beach to the Blue Mountains to Negril over the course of 10 days. We may regret that decision, or it may turn out to be fantastic, but either way, we're looking forward to it.

There's a Negril thread that touches on some restaurants there, but there hasn't been a lot of really recent discussion. While we may not be able to make many stops in between our destinations, if there are places that we should try to seek out, I'd love to hear about them.

So... where on the island have you had some fantastic food? Thanks in advance to the wonderful LTH community!

I was just in Jamaica. Not sure where I ate. It was a roadside stand...yes I did it! No matter where you go, get a Jamaican Patty. They are yummy deep fried spicy things of deliciousness. Watch the traffic, they drive crazy.

Dreaming of Treasure Beach ...the food at both of Jake's places were great and the local ingredients insanely good.

Check the latest suggestions on http://www.jamaicans.com/forums/ - folks there know the island inside and out and are great at helping with info particularly for those of us who avoid resorts and go places like TB.

You definitely need to go to Ossie's Jerk Centre in Negril.

We had delicious patties at Devon House in Kingston (beef and curried chicken), which we topped off with ice cream from I-Scream (http://www.devonhousejamaica.com/ShopnD ... usepg1.htm). We were advised that these were the best on the island, and they were pretty darn tasty. My previous experience with patties were as the only edible thing in the New York City public schools lunch program in the 70s and 80s, and needless to say, these patties were way better.

We ended up taking a cooking class in Negril where we made our own jerk, in large enough quantities that we had lots of leftovers and didn't have to go anywhere (taken at http://www.thespajamaica.com/). Cold jerk chicken, callaloo, and johnny cakes eaten while watching the sunset, washed down with Red Stripe, it's hard to beat that.

However, the best food that we had the whole trip was cooked by the chef at Lime Tree Farm, the very small hotel / working coffee farm where we stayed in the Blue Mountains (http://www.limetreefarm.com/). Fresh, simple, delicious. I am now dreaming of papaya, breadfruit, and ackee (and the views at the farm, which were beyond spectacular).

    Can't wait to go back!
