This year for the first time, I have 2 plots in the community garden next door to my building (we have no sun in our yard, so I was limited to a couple of window boxes on the back porch). They've only had veggie plots for a couple of years, and there are only 4 of them, but oddly enough they had no takers, so I got 2. I haven't ever grown anything beyond a some potted herbs, plus the cherry tomatoes in window boxes last year, so this will be a big adventure. And more than slightly insane.
One of the plots already had a huge bush of thyme, a huge bush of chives, and a bit of sage. To that, I have added so far;
Spearmint
Dill
Rosemary
Basil (which I've never had any luck trying to grow from seed - if it doesn't work, I will just buy a couple of plants)
3 kinds of carrots (Amarillo, Atomic Red, and a French ball-shaped kind)
Easter egg radishes
Chioggia beets
Several different kinds of heirloom peppers and tomatoes
Armenian cucumbers
Mediterranean melon mix
Amaranth
Snow peas
Microgreens (a braising mix and a spicy Italian mix) - these have been very gratifying so far! They had sprouted within a few days. Woohoo!
Broccoli mix
Ordered, to replace the radishes once they are done, and to fill in wherever stuff doesn't make it (most of the Armenian cucumbers didn't take kindly to being transplanted, and I imagine the rest can go to fill in stuff that we will eat by midsummer):
Rapini
Lebanese cucumbers
Eggplants
Broccoli (various kinds)
Cauliflower
More funky kinds of broccoli
Cabbage
Lacinato and Russian kale
If all this stuff actually germinates, it will be insane. But I have a good friend who lives like a mile away and has a double lot and 3 hungry teenage kids who will happily take anything I need to thin out
