My point is just that it sounds like an awful combination of flavors, one competing against the other.

    Yeah, I know - I agree.

I was talking to the editor of a Canadian ski mag, and he told me that when he and his ski bum buddies went out for a long day on the slopes, they'd first run poutine through a blender and put it into their Camelbaks for sipping throughout the day. Feeling queasy, yet?

Yeah . . . but if you told me they did that with a course or two at Alinea, I'd have the same reaction.

You think that's gross? How about poutine-flavored soda:

In Vegas, had very good poutine at a joint called Moondoggies (3240 Arville St.). Very good. Also had a beef on weck, a Buffalo sandwich. Owner must be from Buffalo. Respectable pizza also. Good joint, but a definite joint for the squimish.

After 2 less than flavorful tries at poutine, the 3rd time's the charm. Mereday's Brasserie at Coconut Point Mall in Bonita Springs, FL. has a bar menu which features Duck Fat Poutine. Fries are topped with duck gravy, mozzarella cheese curds, and pickled duck confit. Schwiinnngggg! The gravy was wonderfully ducky and the curds were flavorful and not too squeeky. Chef Mereday is French trained and beginnig to build a bit of an empire down here, with this being his 3rd restaurant. Oh, and we did enjoy everything else we ate, including spicey smoked duck wings.

All I can say is that the poutine I've had at The Gage is outstanding. I've had it with duck confit, I've had it with pulled pork. There are veggies in it. The fries, despite the gravy, stay crunchy. It is a revelation to excess.

Hey, I was doing a search for poutine and forgot about this thread. Did you ever open your place in LA? If so, how are things going?

I was looking to see if anyone knows of any more places that serve a great poutine relatively close to my area (Highland Park). Tap House Grill closed in Highwood (although they served it with fried curds which isn't technically poutine). I did drive by a place called Q-Tine on Milwaukee Ave a couple months ago, but I couldn't stop to try it that day. I also was up in Milwaukee at AJ Bombers in February for a burger with Nueske bacon on it and I totally zoned out by missing poutine on the menu. A girl sitting by me from Toronto of all places, ordered it and said it was a very good version. So there you go - Canadian approved up in Milwaukee.

And you'd trust a Trontonian re: poutine??! Almost as bad as trusting one re: smoked meat!!!

I know you are! That Trontonian was as close to Quebecer I could find at the counter in Milwaukee at that moment!

I was back at AJ Bombers a week ago and got the poutine. It was decent. Fries were probably the weak link. Cheese was delicious. Burger with Nueske bacon was the highlight of course.

Tnx for taking one for the team, Ram4!
While I don't envy you the poutine, I *do* envy you the Nueske bacon adorned burger!

I had poutine at a couple of places in downtown Windsor, ON. I still have yet to make to to Quebec but these were at the top of what I've had so far. Simon's Prime Hamburgers was a very good version in a fast food joint. Burgers looked great but I didn't have one. The floor was slippery from the grease! Right down the street is Frenchy's Poutinery which is probably even better but the shop is dark and dreary in there. I've since been back to Frenchy's and it was great.
