Hoping someone knows of a liquor store in either Chicago or the Wheeling area that sells Stielg Radler (either grapefruit or lemon) in cans - I need to find some for a boat cruise on the river where bottled beer is verboten. Thanks in advance for assistance!

Any Binny's should have the grapefruit cans.

I know it's not what you're specifically asking for, but Costco has Warka lemon Radler in cans. I prefer it to the Stiegl Lemon. 24 tallboy cans for about $20 if I recall correctly.

I've seen this at almost any place I've been - Mariano's, Binny's, even Arista Foods in west loop. Perfect boat beer, if you ask me :) Have fun!

Since discovering it I've really been liking the Schöfferhoffer grapefruit radler considerably more than the Stiegl. Available in 4-pack tallboy cans at Binny's (at least at my regular location in the South Loop).

I had one of these the other day. I'm not a beer drinker, but I thought I'd give it a chance.
Each swallow, it was, "Hey, nice refreshing mildly alcoholic grapefruit soda.... $#!+, who put beer in this? And why?"
(wishing more people stocked cider for parties)

Believe it or not, I just saw it at Target on Elston today (grapefruit I believe).

There's so little beer in it I don't think it's that's big a deal (maybe 2% or so, if that). Personally I think you should be able to drive around and drink one, since it would take about 10 or 12 of them to get legally drunk.

Northdown Cafe is making a cocktail with Stiegl Grapefruit radler, Letherbee Gin and McClary Bros Rhubarb drinking vinegar. It's awesome.

It's not the alcohol that's the problem (and I checked the label, it's 3.2%), it's the flavor. Just never been a fan of that fermented barley malt. One of the worst things I ever tasted was kvass -- sweetened, carbonated barley malt drink.

Traditionally, Kvas is made with rye bread. No barley or other malted grains involved. I know what you mean, though. Vita-malt is a particularly syrupy beverage that I find difficult to drink. Radler is simply beer mixed with carbonated lemonade. Any maltiness would depend on the type of beer used. More often than not, the beer part is pretty light and dry (like a pilsner).

Yep. Here is a homemade recipe for kvass. It's basically fermented bread water.
