jimswside - did you end up hitting Frank's in Silvis? If so, I'm interested to hear your report. Having grown up 10 minutes from Frank's, I'm thrilled at the love its getting in this thread! I made my first visit to the Bettendorf location about a year ago after numerous visits to the original Silvis spot. The "new place" (despite having been around for - I think - 20+ years!) was nice enough & the pizza great, but it does not nearly capture the ambiance of the Silvis original. If anyone is paying their first visit to Frank's, I highly encourage the Silvis location! Clint's (in the Wells Fargo bowling alley) is pretty good, as is Sluggers and Harris - but they are all knock-offs of the original - Franks. For anyone who's interested, there is a fairly active Facebook group - "Frank's Pizza Lovers" - with many pics & reminiscences...

We did get to Franks and really enjoyed it. The Silvas location. We had been eating all day, so we went wit a small which is not QC style, but a solid thin crust. Liked the cheese and sausage and am definitely going back for another visit. Probably next weekend.

Good to hear! For a total Frank's experience, order a Sausage Pizza, an order of fried chicken, and an Italian Beef sandwich to share as a group. And then if your stomach & wallet can handle - head to any Whitey's ice cream location (closest is in East Moline, about 5 minutes away) for dessert!

After a summer of eating alot of QC pizza I have determined I like the style, but it is probably my 3rd favorite behind Chicago tavern style thin crust, and an east coast style pizza like Coalfire.

Made another visit to Harris Pizza in Rock Island, this time for a half German, half taco pizza (both Quad Cities standards)

I was reminded of JeffB's comment about the spaghetti pizza at Angelo's in Sterling, "Everything that's wrong with America, in the form of a pizza," as I enjoyed both halves of this pie. Harris's crust is really excellent and shows well even on these novelty pizzas (actually the combination of Canadian bacon and sauerkraut on a pizza is surprisingly harmonious).

The wife and I hit the Davenport Harris location on Locust yesterday. This is maybe the fourth or fifth Quad Cities pizza we've had (not counting Roots in Chicago, but, to be honest, it really didn't remind me of the pizzas I've had in the Quad Cities. Maybe I need to go back to Roots and see if it's my memory that's faulty.)

I love the crust on these pizzas. Crispy, yet chewy at the same time. Slightly malty. Not very thin, but not exactly thick, either. Got a nice texture and flavor, overall. I have to say, though, I'm not a huge fan of the type of sausage used on the Harris pizza. And, wow, that pizza had about three times the amount of cheese that was necessary (and I thought some Chicago-style thin crusts had a lot of cheese.) Still, a fine pizza, and every time I drive through the Quad Cities, I have to try out a new place. So far, Harris is my favorite, just not their sausage.

popped into Franks on Saturday for lunch, saw some of their fried chicken go by and it did look solid(I eat way too much fried chix otherwise I would have ordered some up), next trip.

On my recent Iowa Outstanding in the Field visit (just outside Des Moines), we stopped at Harris Pizza in Davenport. This was my first experience eating Quad Cities-style pizza anywhere other than Roots here in Chicago. I was very impressed. I had the taco pizza and the crust was crispy, crunchy and malty just like at Roots. It might have even been just a tad better, but it's a close call. As for the toppings, I'd say Roots and Harris offer very similar taco pizzas. All in all, a very good visit.

We also had a sausage and pepperoni pizza. This type of crumbled sausage will never knock my socks off, but that's the style here. Still, a terrific and unique crust, but when it comes to Quad Cities-style pizza, I prefer the more unique toppings.
