Sometimes you go into a store and see something completely unusual and you're wary of trying it out. Sometimes the item is so wacky that it just needs to be shared.

    Ketchup Chips
Fresh Farms, 5740 W. Touhy Ave., Niles
I'm not quite sure these are in the shape of ghosts, and especially cheerful versions of Pac-Man-like ghosts at that. But these do taste like Ketchup, perfect as a side to a nice Chicago hot dog. Pretty addictive. Not sure if Mr. Pie got more than one.

BBQ with my Honey chips, endorsed by Romeo, American entertainer/actor/basketball player/nephew of C-Murder
    Dollar House Plus (I think)
    4632 Oakton St., Skokie
Tastier than I expected, but with a fake, sugary aftertaste. Considering the packaging had a photo of him about 15 and he's about 20 now, I'm surprised they weren't inedible.

    Hi,

If you still have your packet of ketchup chips, you may want to check where they were produced. The Canadians are quite fond of ketchup chips. Those in the know who have had ketchup chips from this side of the border, they were not as good as those from Canada.

If they were made here, then you have something to look forward to when you snag a Canadian produced ketchup chip.

Actually, that's not the first time those Pac-Man ketchup chips have been posted about here:

    Madrid
(most of the way down the first post)

Apparently there's an international taste for them everywhere but the land of ketchup, the USA.

Actual ketchup doesn't have a delightful crunch or a smiling visage.

Ketchup, sure. Would you believe dill pickle? [click on "favourites" and then use the side arrows to look at the choices] Some companies make "all-dressed", a flavor very popular in Montréal, where it can be applied to pizzas, za'atar pitas, etc. etc.

Canadian chipdom is light-years ahead of the US.

dill pickle chips are actually much easier to find in the US than ketchup -- Lays makes them, as does the Krunchers brand (snyder's, formerly Jay's). All-dressed chips are also very popular with my canadian-born wife, although I got burnt out on them pretty quickly.

I do agree that canada is ahead of the US when it comes to potato chip flavors, but they're still well behind the UK and Japan.

Living outside Toronto for a few months about 18 years ago, my kids and I would pick a new potato chip flavor each week and ketchup was definitely the best. It was before US companies began offering any flavors and we were simply gobsmacked at the idea.

It was also the first place I saw rice krispie treats served in restaurants as a desert. Still surprises me.

This company Utz has some interesting chip flavors. They're very popular on the east coast. The parents of one of the ladies I work with sends her a care package every few months from Utz.

I love Old Bay and use it on all red meats since I rarely eat Crab it seems. Of course, nowadays I use the Spice House version instead of the original.

Bought a couple of bags in Annapolis when we were out there sailing. Consensus was that the Crab Chip was better than the Firey Hot Chip.

We'll be back over Labor Day and will have to try a few more varieties!

It's funny that you mention that flavor, because that was one of the flavors I got, and EVERYONE at work thought I was crazy for getting them. Out of all the chips I got, those were the best!
