Who all is going to be there? My tickets still haven't arrived but I called and have been assured they will be waiting for me there. I'll be wearing a goofy Hawaiian shirt and brimmed hat (as will probably a hundred others), stop and say hi!

I'll be there, but only shortly. MincyBits is still in the hospital for chemo so I'm just going to pick up our beers and run, probably.

I'll be on the lookout for you. Is the Hawaiian shirt a BeerAdvocate thing or some other like group?

The Hawaiian shirt is not a group thing, just comfortable.

I will be there, I'll have a meetup group with me but if any LTHers want to stop and say hi that would be great. I'll have a keg of homebrewed ESB and I hope that people trading beers won't mind draft beer in lieu of bottles.

I always used to tell people I was meeting at beer events "Look for the fat guy with the beard" but as it turns out, beer events are full of guys meeting that description. So I think to distinguish myself I'll be wearing a mexican wrestling mask made to look like Spider-Man's mask as a hat. (Wouldn't be able to drink if I was wearing it as a mask)

gonna be taking the bus from Quenchers, as last year.
didn't snag a ticket, but I've got a bottle that survived
the year so it'll be making a homecoming. Looking forward
to the guest brews and some awesome brats and music.

What is the deal with the Quenchers bus? I'm sure you have to reserve a seat, but do you know if any are still available?

:) Never said it wasn't descriptive or accurate, just not uniquely descriptive, especially at a beer event.

That picture doesn't really do justice to my supremely well developed leg muscles though... ;)

Have any of you folks been to previous Dark Lord Days? I'm curious to know what they're like. I didn't get a golden ticket (totally spaced on the date & forgot to even try for them), but I'm considering heading out there anyway.

Incidentally, I'm enjoying my last bottle of 2008 Munsterfest as we speak...it's easily in my all-time top 5 :)

I was there last year, lots of people sharing lots of good beer. We were lucky to get in line right behind a home brewer who had lots of good beer that he was willing to share. Unfortunately we were too far back in line to purchase any Dark Lord, but we got our fill on tap and had a great time. Hopefully the weather holds tomorrow, I can't wait!!

They will be selling 4 bottles per ticket.

After 6pm, any unclaimed bottles will be sold to anyone who wants them. (I assume there will be a big line for these)

So, did everyone enjoy themselves? Honestly, despite the claims of better organization, I found things to be more in disarray than last year.
The golden tickets meant the line to get bottles of DL were never unreasonable (I didn't get golden tickets myself), but the food line was insane. We walked to White Castle instead. The guest drafts were kind of lame - didn't see Piece, Flossmoor, etc there, although the vanilla bean dark lord was great. The rain didn't help, because I became too crowded inside to see music. And by the end of the day, the brewery was selling leftover golden tickets for $10. At 5pm, what's the point? Just let me go in and buy one! I don't need to give an extra $10 to "guarantee" a bottle when I'm already there! I left with one DL and a bottle of Popskull, which frankly I'm more excited about.
I still had a great time and drank some great beer. My second bottle of DL from last year made a homecoming and was still as delicious as it was exactly one year ago. Best times were on the Quenchers bus, of course. Any one else have any comments?

I agree with everything said except the guest taps. I did not think they were lame at all. I'm not sure if you saw the table inside the brewery, next to where they were selling the merchandise, but they had all kinds of great stuff like brandy barrell aged Double Bastard, and Canadian Breakfast Stout, JW Lee's cask, Firestone Walker Abacus, Struise Balck Albert, etc.

I had a great time. I did not, however, wait in line for anything but Dark Lord itself. Rather, I hung out in a tent with my keg of homebrew and harangued anyone who came within 5 feet of me to trade samples with me. In this way I was able to taste many of the guest taps. Some kind friends also shared some of their food with me. Occasionally I wandered around the fest introducing myself to random people and urging them to come try my homebrew. I fear that for a time I may have been slightly deranged from overconsumption. But enjoy myself? Oh yes I had a grand time.

but yes, JasonM did partake in homebrewed beer dispensed from a homebrewed rig. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done:

yeah, definitely saw the dude as well. seemed like a good guy. wish i coulda gotten in on some of that homebrew, though. I was looking for the spidey mask.
I was also looking for a gentleman from West Virginia who last year had a bottle of Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster. Wanted to trade a bottle of Half Acre Baume for it. Failed, nevertheless.
anyhow, was not the line for a brewpub seat insane? last year that was the best way to actually sit down and try a few different 3F brews on tap, while also having water provided to rinse the hops from your mouth. anyone make it in there?

Apparently the pub had oak barrel aged Dark Lord on tap. That was the big attraction.

I guess they started brewing this year's batch last week. Somebody told me that all the money that is collected by FFF on Dark Lord Day (which I imagine is substantial), goes straight into buying new equipment for the brewery, which in turn allows them to brew more specialty beers.
