Can anyone recommend someone or a company that could set up an in-home wine tasting? I know that the Trib has a regular listing of classes, but was unable to locate it on the website. If anyone has a copy of that, it would jumpstart my search.

A couple of months ago we attended a party at someone's home where they hired two sommeliers to do a wine tasting. The sommeliers took the hosts shopping and did the whole deal. I can't remember their names, but one was the woman who's the sommelier at Sushi Samba Rio. She was delightful and did a great job, but I have no idea what that cost was. She would definitely be worth a call.

    MAG,

There's this guy in Oak Park, Jim Matthews, who teamed up with a chef to hold a series of seminars entitled What Goes with What, focusing on Wine and Food pairings. The Wife and I took the class (twice: slow learners), and I was impressed with Jim's wine knowledge, his openess to other people's tastes and interpretations, and his boundless enthusiasm. His site is at http://orik.com/wgww/guys.htm, and he offers the kind of in-home sessions you're looking for.

I know the owner of The Wine Cellar in Palatine. He lives in Evanston and does in-home wine tastings. He's a good guy, and REALLY good at matching food and wine.

I really enjoyed the tasting at Que Syrah on Southport near Waveland on New Year's Eve 2003. They had a generous pour and great staff, so friendly!

Their site states they will customize an in home tasting.

Mag, as you know, MsRev is working on her MS. She would be very happy to conduct a wine tasting if you fly her and her husband in from Tahoe. Some excellent wines will be provided. Of course, one of your famous dinners would be appropriate.
