I have a very healthy bunch of tarragon that has started to take over a good portion of my herb garden. It's actually causing two problems.

    1. The plant has gotten very long and drapes across half the garden and onto my patio. I'd like a good way to contain the branches but a stake would be difficult considering the proximity to my patio and other factors (kids, animals)

    2. It's also started to spread and send up suckers all over the bed. Short of driving metal plates around the plate, is there a good way to contain it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if it works for tarragon, but I know for mint you have to drive metal plates all around it, if you have it in a garden.

Tarragon, mint and lemon balm can be terribly invasive. I think your best bet would be to start a piece from your original plant and grow it as a starter in a large part. After it gets going, take out the original and bury the entire pot containing the new growth. This will keep it from getting too out of control and you can just trim the height off as needed.
