Myzithra is a sheeps milk cheese and, indeed, parmesan would not be a very suitable stand-in. An excellent substitute would be any imported ricotta salata from Italy. I think the Italian dried ricottas are usually a little tastier but for Greek dishes, I really prefer to use the Greek cheese. And between Whole Foods and Athens Market, there really is no need not to use the real deal.
By the way, I suspect one could buy myzithra at Artopolis as well, but since that's on the same block as Athens Market, it makes more sense to go there and buy those heavenly olives as well. Myzithra is also sold at Andy's on Kedzie (just south of Lawrence), I believe. They have a great dairy selection of things packaged.
