We had delicious patties at Devon House in Kingston (beef and curried chicken), which we topped off with ice cream from I-Scream (
http://www.devonhousejamaica.com/ShopnD ... usepg1.htm). We were advised that these were the best on the island, and they were pretty darn tasty. My previous experience with patties were as the only edible thing in the New York City public schools lunch program in the 70s and 80s, and needless to say, these patties were way better.
We ended up taking a cooking class in Negril where we made our own jerk, in large enough quantities that we had lots of leftovers and didn't have to go anywhere (taken at
http://www.thespajamaica.com/). Cold jerk chicken, callaloo, and johnny cakes eaten while watching the sunset, washed down with Red Stripe, it's hard to beat that.
However, the best food that we had the whole trip was cooked by the chef at Lime Tree Farm, the very small hotel / working coffee farm where we stayed in the Blue Mountains (
http://www.limetreefarm.com/). Fresh, simple, delicious. I am now dreaming of papaya, breadfruit, and ackee (and the views at the farm, which were beyond spectacular).
Can't wait to go back!
