If you love French food and don't care a whole lot about ambience, you might be interested in the French dinners that take place in Buffalo Grove once a month. Patrick Chabert, who was for 16 years the sous-chef/lieutenant under Jean Banchet at Le Francais, mostly does catering these days, but once a month, he whips up a great fixed-price French dinner that gets served in the pleasant but not elegant dining area of a deli called Berutti's. Jean Banchet steps in on occasion and helps Patrick with the dinner -- so you're getting Le Francais quality at much lower prices ($65 all inclusive -- wine included, too). But be advised, payment needs to be check or cash.

Dates for upcoming dinners are Feb. 10, March 17, April 21, May 19, and July 14 (though the dinner will be a bit more celebratory, its being Bastille Day).

    Dinners start at 7 pm.

Berutti's is at 771 S. Buffalo Grove Road in Buffalo Grove.

To reserve a place, call 847-215-1931.

Patrick's food is very, very good. I won't be there in Feb., but I'm looking forward to hitting at least a few of these dates.

I attended a wedding catered by Chef Chabert and the food was wonderful!

I just realized yesterday that Patrick's flyer didn't list the time, so I called him, and it's 7pm.

All the other info (cost and location) is in the first message. Let me know if you need anything else. I'll call make the reservation tomorrow, and I'll include everyone who has responded thus far to this strand.

I'm sure we'll be able to add a few more people later, if someone hasn't seen this before I make the reservation, but the fancier the food, the more advanced notice they need -- so try to get in touch this week.

I'll add you to the reservation, Matt.

And I've spoken with Patrick. He can add people to the reservation for the April 21st outing through Friday the 14th, then he could add one or two stragglers as late as next Tuesday. So you still have a little time if you're waiting to see if your schedule clears.

And to all who are coming -- don't forget -- this is cash or check only. Patrick can't process credit cards.
