    Dave--

If Pritzker told you to jump into a vat of boiling zinc, would you do it?

Nevertheless, hope to be there... :)

I'll aim to be there; who knows what my meetings will be like.

Nah, sorry I mentioned it. Zinc fondue is not a nice thing to even suggest on such a momentous occasion as your esteemed birthday. Molten steel, however...

This is the Quora (you can find anything on one of those Internet thingies...) response to my query about submerging a live body into molten steel:

"If your body actually submerged, then within seconds the water it contains would boil and create a steam explosion, hurling blobs of molten steel — think red-lot, squishy bullets — in all directions. ... The first thing that has to happen is for your skin to burn away so the moist tissue underneath can start boiling."

    Have a wonderful Friday!

I'll join the usual suspects. It's too bad that J will not be joining us. I had intended to ask him the following question: Mr Martini - if that's your real name - given your interest in what happens to a body in a vat of molten steel, were you or were you not in the vicinity of the Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1975 when one James R. (Jimmy) Hoffa disappeared?

Just noticed that I didn't post a reply. Guess I just figured it was a standing event. Sorry to miss this.

I thought events dissappeared from the list when the date passed.. Or is that a manual archive which hasn't been done yet?

Seriously, why can't we continue with virtual events? We pick a cuisine (e.g Viietnamese or BBQ) and each get carry out, then meet online for "show and tell"? We could allow people to make their own, as long as they are willing to share the recipes. Culinary Historians and dances are virtualized online, why not this?

And yes, with or without Pritzker saying 'we should continue', I'm sure we all wish to support the restaurants we hope will still be in business for us to visit when this is all over. I have done carry out that I normally would not do and plan to do it again anyway.

Might be better to a dinner edition, but lunch could still be done, especially if nobody is working, or can get take the time carry out then eating online while not working would take.

We could even discuss what to order before hand, for instance everybody say where they were carrying out from, then get recommendations from others good or bad, or ask questions, like what is "xyz" which is a dish I have never heard of before.

We'd meet with free zoom which is limited to 40 minutes (haven't tried yet, but plan to experiment with) unless somebody has a paid account they are comfortable volunteering . Or use google hangouts which is free no matter how long.
