I needed to quickly jump on setting up the April date as I recently discovered chatter about my pending demise on FB.

Speaking of chatter, there's been a lot of it among the LTHNLG minions regarding the Vernon Hills outpost of Ramen House Shinchan. Let's check out as a group. As always, bring a friend.

Since the closure of restaurants will probably extend past April 2, will the group consider getting carry out and going to a park, if the weather permits and they are open for carry-out? Perhaps without sharing food, except maybe unit items like dumplings?

As EC, I hereby decree - no. I'll most likely cancel this outing.

I keep my fingers crossed this may still happen. If the place is closed, then so be it.

Soup on picnic blankets is a hilarious picture.

Picnic tables are less silly, but I'm still laughing at trying to eat ramen on the ground.

A long time ago when there was no LTH and life revolved around Chowhound, there was an amusing event planned by someone who did not want to meet in real life.

RST planned a Brazilian meal available for pick up at a Brazilian grocery store on Western just south of Fullerton. I think it is still there.

RST wished for people to collect their food, go home and eat it while 'conversing' about their dinner over the internet. At that time, this meant posting feverishly our reactions to this fine meal.

We could do something quite similar, though in real time and still keeping socially distant. It could be food we prepare at home, it could be take out, but instead of eating solo, we could eat while meeting via Zoom.

If nobody believes this happened, they can watch the video on facebook later.

    Who's in?

    I love the idea.

I am not against this per se. But I am currently giving piano and vocal lessons remotely via Zoom, and I can verify that mouth/eating noises are unnaturally amplified on this platform to a equine-like, oat-chomping din. In short, it's disgusting. WILLL-BURRR! 8)

IF this comes together, we may have to have few/some/many/all of us tone down those sounds that in this context could cause aural not to mention psychological damage. And, :::sigh:::, I won't single anyone out, but due to his poobah-like stature in the LTHNLG community, to set a good example I might recommend our EC sit in a closed, darkened room and take an advance online tutorial on correct table manners. Frankly, we don't need to see a long ramen noodle draped over his ear while trying to make a point.

I'm sure it would benefit us all, and would be in the spirit of J.B. Pritzker's mantra...'we're all in this together'.

    Enjoy your Sunday, shut-ins!
