On Saturday, March 7, 2020, Chicago's Newberry Library will be hosting a free, day-long conference on Foodways of the Midwest. The morning session is food, the afternoon session is beer, and after all is done, there will be food (snacks) and beer for the enjoyment of those attending.

Full disclosure -- I'm one of the speakers.

For more info, including the schedule, here's a link to the Newberry site.

    HI,

This was a day very well spent.

Cynthia did an excellent talk on the Midwest. Fortunately, she was first speaker who may as well have been a keynote speaker. Cynthia set the table for the rest of the day's events.

The afternoon panel did not offer some important context to prohibition. A podcast from the Lake County History symposium offered more: Ballots, Babes and Beer.

Their reception with regional beer, soda and Wisconsin supper club type relish and sauce trays provided a nice closing.

    Regards,

    Thank you, C2.

I thought it was a fun event--and it was lovely having a few friends in the audience.

And how did you enjoy the Corn Nuts?

    Crunchy little devils.

I made some from dried corn some years ago on a lark. I like it, but a little goes a long way.

Indeed. I like Glad Corn better, as it's not quite so threatening to one's teeth.
