Taking advantage of Lake County Restaurant Week, the LTHNLG is heading to Bluegrass for lunch with a southern influence.

You can see the special menu here - https://www.visitlakecounty.org/member_ ... 202020.pdf

Please join on the 5th for some shrimp and grits along with other good stuff. As always, bring a friend.

Very solid place for those who haven't been there. High quality, expert preparation. We're usually Sunday 5PM res people, meeting friends from the North Side at a halfway point. Always full by the time we leave.

Never lunched there, looking forward to it. Count me in!

I'll be there. My first exposure to Bluegrass was their Lake County Restaurant Week promotion last year. It was a similar three course lunch with one of the choices then being their Crusty Blue BBQ Burger. I'm so glad I chose it because it became my favorite cheeseburger. For dessert I chose Bananas Foster which was excellent.

A few friends and I have been sampling recommended cheeseburgers in the burbs for a few years. Recently we've sampled some of Nick Kindelsperger's recommendations in the Chicago Tribune: https://www.chicagotribune.com/dining/c ... -list.html

We loved the cheeseburger at Vistro in Hinsdale which Nick rated number two and we thought it was better than his number one rated Edzo's in Evanston. While Edzo's was quite good, we found their burger, fries and shake to be a bit better than a similar meal at Steak 'N Shake at more than twice the price. And, Edzo's is a dive, self-service, not clean, and parking is difficult. I would rate the Bluegrass burger above these. I've been back for it several times in the past year.

I look forward to seeing the usual suspects at Bluegrass.

Damn, that's quite the testimonial from the self-appointed arbiter of taste and behavior!

FYI I am recovering from a nasty head-on car accident Saturday night, that had it not been for the seat belt & air bag functioning correctly, and the crumple attributes of present-day front-ends of vehicles, I probably would not be there tomorrow with y'all, or anywhere for that matter. I was transported by ambulance to Condell, where XRays & CT scans were clean. I'm bruised & abused, but otherwise OK. And damn lucky.

    Looking forward to tomorrow...

    nsxtasy,

Could it be Chan's Tea House? It is where Yummy Bowl is today in Highland Park, which is Sheridan Road just north of Central.

Chhi-Lin Court, which I mentioned at our lunch as our go-to restaurant for Chinese food in the 1980s and 1990s, was located at 474 Central Avenue in Highland Park, where Mizuki Grill is now. It opened in 1984 and was reviewed ten years later in the Tribune. It closed in late 1996.

The building with the glass elevator. It was likely I was there at some point, but I just don't recall.

Mizuki Grill has closed. I have no idea what, if anything, is there now.

Szechuan North on First Street stands out far more. Their crunchy orange chicken is in my mind's eye as I write. There was a similar restaurant at Old Orchard at the location of The Magic Pan. I thought both places were related to the a Chinese restaurant on Michigan Ave (guestimating either at Ohio or Ontario Ave).

Ah, the glass elevator building! I was going to ask you if that was the location you meant. I remember when Las Palmas was there. We were sad to see it go.
