    Joel and I am stepping up to host the next dessert exchange on Sunday, Oct 6th at 4pm. We can host up to 12 people -please let me know if you are able to come. The usual rules apply: Please make one dessert of any type and bring to the exchange. We will be supplying a light meal and then we will share desserts. Bring containers to bring home extra dessert as there is always plenty. Newcomers are always welcome.

    Sadly, I have gestational diabetes with this pregnancy that's been a little hard to control, so eating dessert is out for now :cry: But, as I told kalamazoogal, as soon as I have this baby, I am eating *all* the cake. Hope to see everyone after November!

    so sorry to hear things aren't going so easily this time. we'll ply you with desserts after the baby is born.

    The weekend is going to be super cra-cra
    so I'm actually going to bake tonight !
    (and hide it) with a very threatening note....

    i stopped at andy's produce market this morning and found sour cherry preserves....so, i'll be making a gateau basque, with sour cherry filling. i've made it before, but with pastry cream. pastry cream is more typical in southern basque country, according to wikipedia... i love this cake. looking forward to sunday. sueF, dont forget to send out directions (i'm sure i have them somewhere....)

    If it’s not too late, I’d love to join Sunday. I have a family event in Wilmette earlier that should be done by 4 so I might be a little late. Depending on how much time I have, I will either try my hand at mahogany cake with ermine frosting (my stretch goal) or else will bring ooey gooey cinnamon squares.

    I have just finished assembling Christina Tosi’s (MilkBar) Tiramisu cake which now requires 12 hours to ‘set’ in the freezer before thawing to serve. Some of you know how much I love coffee. And dessert. If my test tastes of the components are any indication, I think this one is a winner. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow....

    So looks like I will again plan to bring Basque cheesecake unless I get interrupted by some other flight of fancy.

    Hi,

    On facebook, there is a group devoted to the Great British Baking Show.

    I will make Chelsea buns, though the precise filling will be determined in the morning.

    After a GBBS holiday program, I made Chelsea buns stuffed with turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing. I have seen them filled with mincemeat. It seems the filling is only limited by your imagination.

    Thanks for a wonderful dessert exchange! Dinner was
    delicious and it was nice to meet new people and say hi to some I haven’t seen for a while. Here is the link to the olive oil lemon cake for those who were asking. I baked it for only 30 minutes because I used a 10” springform (and because I lost quite a bit of batter from having the bottom on upside down!). I also poked some tiny holes in it right when it came out and basted a layer of lemon simple syrup I had leftover from a different cake.

    i dont get the (ferris?) bueller reference, but i feel your pain. i can host the next dessert exchange on sunday, march 1st, if that works for enough people. i'm going to post this now as a new event listing- the 86th dessert exchange. so sign up there, please.
