Papa Marcos gets a quick review by Sweet Willie in the Waukegan LTH thread - https://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=208680 - he enjoyed the food and admired the cleanliness, including the bathroom. My wife and I found this place by accident a few years ago shortly after their grand opening. We enjoyed the food. I don't recall the bathroom situation. According to Yelp, this spot is on their annual list of “100 Places to Eat in the U.S.”

Please join us on the 13th for some Middle Eastern Cuisine. If that's not your thing, they also have "Chicago Style Sandwiches."

You may want to adjust the time to earlier or later, but you are hitting it exactly when all the judges and attorneys from the courthouse are eating. They have to be back by 1:00 PM.

They will not reserve a table presently. This will change once they knock out a wall and expand their dining room.

I really like this choice, because my two visits provided lots of good food vibes.

I am in. I like the earlier time. Need to beat the crowds. Surprised the EC wasnt more on top of this but at least one of his minions had his back.

Damn your eyes, I'm usually still hungover at 11:00 (musician funny). Nevertheless, I will try to make it to keep the conversation moving instead of us resorting to all stabbing each other with forks...

Will, it's over for him. Shhh. He used to be great when he was on Broadway & played Vegas, but now his days are numbered.

You've heard him sing Dream On? Didn't know Jay's group did Aerosmith tribute gigs.

Another bit of misinformation from the master of the game. In the words of the late 'maer' Harold Washington, it's a lot of 'hocus pocus dominocus'...

Aerosmith is a surprisingly hard band to replicate...well. Same goes for Supertramp, 10CC, Little Feat, Zappa, many others.

"If I lived closer, I'd eat here more often." - jnm123

Today's lunch was stellar. We divided into two groups. Four of us ate LTHNLG Style...ordered a bunch of stuff and shared. Two in the group went a la carte.

The only dud in the bunch was the fattoush salad. The dressing was served on the side and it didn't really wow us.

I forgot to check the bathroom.

    Until next month.

Interesting little place for the discerning LTH North palate.

Loved the appetizers--bourak, falafel, dolma, and the salads--tabboula & chickpea--which were really nice, but the fattoush was pedestrian at best. You could definitely make a meal with multiple orders of those appetizers & salads and do very well at a tremendous value, with all of them priced between $2.06 & $3.67. Oh, BTW, their homemade tahini & 'hot' sauce (which was not incendiary at all) were excellent condiments for virtually everything.

Not a huge fan of the entrees. They were fine, but Will noted that the lamb shawerma was not shaved off a cone like at any Greek joint--it seemed more like burnt ends, in texture. The lamb, beef and chicken kabobs were fairly ordinary, and at $9.17 it was more yellow rice than protein. Same thing for the tilapia.

I did mention to EC Dave--who is always looking for someone to lay a well-turned phrase on him that he can hijack & repeat to others as his own creation-- 8)--that if I lived close, I'd be here frequently. Now he can't use the phrase--sorry, EC! (he just bastardizes it--see above!)

Before I get too critical, however, I will say that the hosts were gracious, the place was spotless, and they comped us wonderful baklava-like Assyrian desserts, which were delicious. There is a lot to like about Papa Marcos, especially for the non-mentally-jaundiced among us!

Their gyro sauce hits the spot, too.

I wasn't crazy about the tilapia, though everyone felt it was cooked well.

Dave148 and I drove together, we were reviewing the meal when I realized I forgot to order baba ganoush. As I recall from my prior visits, it is pretty good, too.

    Next time!
