Hard to believe, but this is the 9th Annual Mardi Gras cajun-creole food fest and musicale (fais do-do) that we are hosting!
Here are some mouth-watering pix to tempt you from prior parties,
    viewtopic.php?p=508178#p508178
You should make or bring something Cajun, Creole or something to drink or snack on
Please post what you plan to bring so we can keep it balanced.
Also if possible please try to minimize the need for last minute kitchen prep,
and bring your dish ready to go if at all possible since there will be many dishes/cooks.
My house is not gigantic, so we need to keep this shindig to around 35ish people.

Once again my husband will round up some musician types for some music, so if you play,
bring your instrument along. (we already have a baby grand), and many guitars.
Recap: it will be Sun Mar 3, from 3-7 ish

We are in Deerfield, off Deerfield Rd between Edens and 294, and 0.5mi from the Deerfield Metra station.
I will PM address to attendees ahead of time.

I am planning on making a roast or smoked Cajun turkey
(roast/smoked depending on the weather- as of now looking like roast )
    maybe some deviled eggs
plus a pitcher of "Elaine's Hurricanes"

    Music-(10 ish)
    Frank-guitar
    Carol-piano

Always a great time. Looking forward to it. Bringing adult beverages. (Well, not really — most of the beverages are a year old or less. But they are beverages for adults.)

    This could get interesting.
If I recall my dates {not those kinds of dates, you silly kid }, the day before will likely be when the "Day of the Living Ales" beer festival is held; and the 4th is when the Logan Square Draught Beer Preservation Society has its annual pub crawl through a northwest side neighborhood.
Will I be in a semblance of state to attend here? Oooooohh.
Please put me down as a "maybe". :|

Will the band be playing cajun music? Is there a small area near the music where people do (or could) dance? And would that be allowed? This means hard floor or maybe closed loop carpet. Dancing like cajun swing, cajun waltz and cajun twostep? Or maybe other ballroom, but don't expect Fred Astaire, just entry social dance level. Any singles (at least single women) who dance, since I don't have a partner? I'll guess all the answers are "no" or "unlikely". Maybe some year I'll have a partner I can come with (and provide entertainment for others), but I'd have to skip a different kind of dancing (English Country), so with the extra calories, I should probably skip without the opportunity to work some calories off. I do NOT do country western line dances of the individual type "shake your booty" dancing done in bars, only lead-follow and other structured, patterned types.

PLEASE do not make snide remarks for my asking. I am new and ignorant. I presume the answers are almost certainly "no", but I have learned to ask when I don't know, nothing so disappointing as a great opportunity to dance wasted, so much so for live music. If the answer is "there is room to dance, but we don't want you to", that is fine, just say it politely.

There is absolutely not enough room to dance at my house
we are always jammed with people eating, talking, and listening to the music.
This is why I limit the number of attendees.

Done always glad to see you, Dobra

We're at 40 now, so unless you have something in your email pending from me,
( a few folks who I know don't check the board often or are friends in another direction)

We are now officially on waitlist.
If people drop out, I can add more on.
Should be a delicious and tuneful time!

I just noticed Joan is not attending this year. I will bring the pimento sandwiches on homemade Japanese milk bread.

I may or may not trim the crust off.

Looks like you have plenty of mains or I'd consider a nice dark-roux etouffee (but I don't think that'll travel well anyway). Right now I'm considering a collard greens casserole I've made once before.

i'm thrilled to be included in the festivities... i'm going to be coming from a friend's birthday luncheon, so it'll have to be something i can make the day before (which eliminates my first choice-ham or shrimp paste biscuits)..... after some flipping through my southern/cajun/creole cookbooks, where there are a huge number of recipes that are not any of those things...i'm going with pecan-bourbon bars: not totally authentic...but manageable with my time/space constraints and tasty, too.
