Thanks to Lougord99 for bringing excellent sandwiches from Next of Kin to August’s Evanston Lunch Group’s Tarte Tatin Memorial Picnic. And thanks to him also for pointing out that NOK’s sister restaurant, Kinship, is now open for lunch.

Or, everyday brunch, as they call it on their website. Sure, they offer French Toast, but they also offer burgers and other typical lunch goodies.

But, is Kinship a truly good lunch option in downtown Evanston? The Evanston Lunch Group™ will find out and utter its infallible opinions after convening there Wednesday, Sept 12 at 12:30 pm.

    As usual, all are welcome.

When I saw the announcement it sounded like a smorgasbord of sandwiches, not my taste, but looking at their menu, they only have two, at least one of which actually sounds interesting. Still, Sandwiches don't share well beyond two people per wich, but the rest of the menu looks interesting, so I want to come. Still, if allowed, perhaps we could order a few items off the dinner menu as nearly most of the items feature eggs prominently.

Menu is a bit different for lunch but sounds delicious. Look forward to joining this event and happy to share whatever the group decides to order.

I'll be there and look forward to sharing.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

I must have missed something. Looked on both kinship and Next of Kinship sites and only found the dinner menu.

Does anyone have a link to the lunch / brunch menu? Thanks

You already scrolled down to where it says "MENU" in the middle in small letters, then below that big letters
    "Dinner. Drinks. Brunch. Dessert"
and just click on the word "Brunch"

I wouldn't automatically assume that their brunch menu is what they serve for weekday lunch. (Unless someone has confirmed that with the restaurant...?) The brunch menu is very, well, brunch-focused, with lots of egg dishes and such. Most restaurants serving weekday lunch offer a variety of sandwiches and salads, even breakfast-specialty restaurants like Ovo Frito (2 salads, 4 sandwiches, 3 burgers). So I'm guessing there's a possibility there might be a different lunch menu from the brunch menu on the Kinship website. Just a guess.

Oh, and I'm in for the lunch on the 12th.

P.S. to Gary - You were right, I loved my two dinners when I missed last month's LTH lunch; we can compare notes on the 12th.

When I was getting sandwiches from their cafe for the LTH event, I mistakenly first went into Kinship and asked if I could get something to go. They said sure and handed me a menu. There definitely is a lunch menu. They have only recently opened for lunch, so perhaps it is not on the web site yet.

There's a photo of the lunch menu posted 7 days ago to Yelp.

Here's the right half (the left had a few appetizers, & 4-5 brunch favorites listed)

This was one of the best lunches our group has had. All the food was excellent, and the room was great, featuring ultra-modern decor, widely spaced tables, and a conversation-friendly noise level. Here's the room where we were seated (they also have outdoor seating):

crispy brussels & cotija - lemon & freshly cracked pepper aoili
    Image
omelette - cage free eggs, hen of the woods, beech & crimini mushrooms, spinach, goat cheese, served with crispy yukons
    Image
moroccan lamb burger - golden beet yogurt, kalamata olives, watercress, mint, on a brioche bun, served with fries
    Image
kinship burger - duck fat-roasted onions, shallot mayo, american cheese, brioche bun, served with fries
    Image
tahini miso chicken salad - Gerber's Amish Farm hearth-roasted chicken, harvest greens, rainbow carrot ribbons, candied pecans, tahini-miso dressing

kale caesar - mighty vine tomatoes, parmesan, paprika breadcrumbs, caesar dressing

Again, all the food items were excellent, and it was a fun group as usual. Great lunch!

If you think you might want the lobster, go early, they were sold out when we arrived.
