I really don't know. I only bake them and am not there for the serving part. I would assume whomever is doing the catering takes it back to the kitchen, slices it all up and then they hair bring it out on trays and let people pick? Someone who's been at a wedding recently might be able to answer more properly.

thanks, i've made a few wedding cakes in my day; but with only 1 kind of cake in all the layers. i just started wondering if there would be cake envy when a wedding guest turns to a fellow guest and sees they have a different (better?) flavor. not the baker's fault, in any case!

I've been to several weddings where there are different cake flavors and each time I've been asked by a server what flavor I wanted.

I just bought a new lens for my camera and now I have to find the sweet spots and the right camera modes to get the good focused pictures. This took months with my other lens and the camera has modes for auto focus, macro mode and then the aperture mode. The last lens wouldn't focus on anything too close to the camera but this one will.

I've been taking a lot of photos of the plastic cups from Fuzzy's Taco Shop lately. I have never had a more expressive subject than the plastic cups here. You can bring back your cup for refills for a dollar each visit, or just buy a new one each time. I can't get enough of the Fuzzy's Taco Shop cup photos.

Late for Dragon Boat Festival, but I made these last weekend. I might be up for a "wrap" party if anyone is interested in hosting!

Perfect, excelsior! Were you trained by an expert? you certainly didn't learn the wrapping and tying on YouTube! :)

Thanks Geo! As a kid, I watched my grandmother making these with the other ladies, so they were the experts, but I did need to check the internet for a wrapping/tying refresher. This is the only shape I know how to make, there are several others out there, and several sizes too.

These are the same kind my friends in Wuhan made, so they're the only ones I'm familiar with.

Did you ever do the little pyramidal ones, the sweet ones?

I have never made any sweet ones (lye, red bean) but I guess with the internet I can always find a tutorial. Everyone in my family who I make them for prefer the the savory ones (pork belly, Chinese sausage, mung beans/peanuts).

justjoan wrote:i dont really understand how the wedding cake with 3 completely different cakes works: do guests get whatever flavor lands in front of them; do they get a choice; or do some guests ask for a slice of all 3??? thanks

I went to two such weddings last summer, one of the weddings had no less than 5 cakes, one had three. The answer to your questions at both weddings was, "yes." There was a cake "station" at both. The servers asked what flavor or flavors you'd like to try, and how big of a piece of whichever you'd like. Most memorable was a reconstruction of a strawberry shortcake good humor ice cream bar.
