Yeah, tell me about it. I just borrowed it from the library was shocked at the weight. 5.8 lbs  on Amazon. The covers are also too smooth. Try and pick this thing up with one hand I can easily see I slipping out of one's hand.
That being said it's great book that covers just about everything in great detail.

I know. But based on update experiences from reading SE, including the comments, I decided to wait for a "corrected" edition.

Serious Eats has pretty much stopped producing content since the recent sale. They went from 8-10 posts a day to 1-2, and most days one (if not both) of those posts is some sort of recycled content (list of old recipes), shameless plug for Amazon links or the sous vide they have a kickback with, or a recipe from Kenji's book. It went from a must visit daily site for me to an afterthought almost overnight.

Agree totally with admich. I've subscribed to Serious Eat's daily blog since it became available. It went from being a daily "must read" to "essentially worthless" overnight. I guess the original content-rich version was unsustainable, so the owners sold the name and mailing list and got out.

Too bad, it was once useful. Currently, you can count on the fingers of no hand food/cooking sources that have retained their value. (I'm assuming--pessimistically--that Cook's Illustrated as we know it is finished, tool

Happy Valentine's Day! I just downloaded the new issue of CI and knew the moment I read an article that this was submitted after Kimball's departure. I then beat a path to the Editorial and it is generic. Then went back to the first issue of the year where Kimball is clearly saying goodbye.

I don't know about this change.

I am going to cook from it anyhow and decide when it is time to renew what I will do.

It's not a real letter from Kimball, it's an attempt at humor by a writer for "The Toast" (which Adweek describes as a "ladyblog", who knew that was a thing?).

Ha! It makes sense that it wasn't actually penned by Kimball . . . unless he'd been drinking. Then it might have made perfect sense.

Yeah emphasis on attempt. So perhaps his final letter is actually a tweak on that piece since he talks quite a bit about ghosts in their VT home. It seemed odd when I read it until I read the "satirized" final letter.

Today, CI announced that the new hosts of ATK will be Julia Collin Davison and Bridget Lancaster. I think this is a better choice than Jack Bishop as host. New host(s) for Cooks Country is/are still up in the air, with an announcement to come soon. It appears that Bishop is the new boss, though. The press release came from him.

I'm pleased to announce the new hosts of America's Test Kitchen will be Julia Collin Davison and Bridget Lancaster. They have been fixtures on the show since that first episode aired back in 2001. You know their cooking skills (they have prepared hundreds of recipes on air) as well as their deep knowledge of food. They are both so funny, smart, and passionate about our mission, which is to help you become a better cook. I’m excited to see Bridget and Julia in their roles.

You will continue to see Chris in episodes of America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country already filmed and distributed to your local public television station. Julia and Bridget will make their appearance as co-hosts on brand-new episodes of America’s Test Kitchen starting in 2017. Check local public television station listings for the schedule of season 17 episodes. Chris will continue to host America’s Test Kitchen Radio. And stay tuned for upcoming news about Cook’s Country hosts; we’ll let you know as soon as we have news to share!

I made a recipe from the current issue of CI. It was not edited by Kimball. I knew it the minute I read the article accompanying the recipe.

I didn't like the article much, it got hokey. But the recipe was simple and delicious. It is going into my rotation of dessert offerings. It was the posset.

Bishop made a great choice with Collin Davison and Lancaster as hosts. I am curious to see their interactions together. Folks enjoy them a lot. This makes me far less nervous about the changes post-Kimball on the product.

I had wondered if Kimball had a succession plan given his age.

He might have, but I don't think this is it. I'm betting we haven't heard the last from Mr. Kimball.

No. But his kids weren't in it so this probably had more of his print on it, especially Bishop as editor than I originally thought. He's been clear on Twitter he isn't done.

I saw Kimball doing a guest appearance on the Today show a couple months ago. He was still representing CI, and you could see he was not very happy doing so. His attitude and body language said that he would have been happier doing anything else. I'm looking forward to whatever he has up his sleeve.

Now he is moving on. Instead of polishing his carefully created New England sensibility and hovering over the obsessive recipe-testing platform on which he built Cook’s Illustrated magazine and its offspring, Mr. Kimball is loosening his bow tie and shifting his culinary worldview.

Hi- I don't know how I missed this. I just saw a post on mashupmom about discount magazine, and somebody was amazed that TV Guide was only $5 a year, and so I decided to take a look at the list, and Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country were on there. The deal has been extended, and so it is still up. I think I might get Cook's Illustrated. Does anybody here get Cook's Country? I don't know if I would use that as much. BTW- Milk Street is not on the list. There are lots of deals to be had though. I thought the deal was only for new subscribers though? Hope this helps, Nancy

America's Test Kitchen has a new cookbook that just came out last week called Nutritious Delicious. It talks about 50 super foods, and what to do with them. It looks wonderful. I think I am going to order it. On Amazon through today, there is a $5 off $20 worth of books code. If you are not a member of Prime, you have to make a $25 purchase to get free shipping.

I decided to get both Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country from discount magazine, because they were so cheap. As far as I know the deal is still valid. Thanks, Nancy

Hi- You can access America's Test Kitchen website for 3 months for $1 right now. The deal ends on 4/30. You can also get three free weeks of cooking classes. You have to stop it before the three weeks are up, or you will be charged for the following month. All of ATK's cookbooks are also now $19.99 or less.
