As an update I will be bringing my husband Larry Lundquist. He is more than happy to write his own name tag given the late notice, but he couldn't resist the more I talked about the amazing event ahead.

The salad will be an orzo Greek style salad and the dessert will be lime sugar cookies.

    Hi,

I think Polynesian chicken is now Huli Huli Chicken.

The purple and white rice is more a side rather than a main.

So sorry to have missed this. My plane didn't get into O'Hare until 4:00 pm, and there was no way I could get home and get to the picnic before sunset. I was pleased to see, however, that you have a beautiful day for the picnic. I imagine you also had beautiful food.

The Tiki Bar was amazing, and apparently appeased the tiki gods to give us, once again, stellar weather.

Thanks to all of LTH for making this one of the events of the hear, but especially Cathy2.

I wished I had the salad. The cookies were addictive. I was stuffed and could not stop eating them. So simple. And limey.

I'm thinking about creating hot smoked mackerel, then icing some to serve cold. Maybe I grab some bagels up on Touhy and Cicero. I could also make enough Haiga rice too. Maybe do a smoked fish, rice, and some kinda crunch cruciferous veggie. We also learned how to make the refrigerator pickels at DANK Haus, maybe I whip a vat of those up?

I now wish I had read this earlier. It wouldn't have been the same but I would have lobbied for someone to bring smoked mackerel, rice, and some "kinda crunchy cruciferous veggie."

good time y'all - glad we did the trek in -

    best bite I had -

BR's eggrolls - I prolly have eaten as many different eggrolls as anyone in the past 9 months - close to 50 different spots - gotta say Brads might have been the best I have tasted -

fresh from the fryer, nice balance of fillings(pork, shrimp, etc.) and a nice touch of lip smackin peanut butter - top notch boss:

    Image

I was somewhat busy grilling up 12# of chicken thighs but these bites I got:

    - Panthers Mai Tais and Pancit were good stuff
    - always gotta grab a slab of the Will Special
    - rumaki hotdogs I dug
    - attrill's takoyaki - most intersting bite of the day to me - loved the texture - flavor
    - chili colorado with the tortillas for dipping was a fav as well.

probably forgetting something & I missed out on way to much as usual socializing.

also really fun to bump into some folks I hadnt seen in a couple years.

    What a blast!

The picnic is always one of a very few "can't miss" events of the year for me but this was one was really special. From the construction of Little Tiki Hut (thanks to Teresa for coming up with the best name) to seeing all of the wonderful, creative food and beverages displayed there to enjoying all of the delicious things everyone, Tiki and not, brought on a picture perfect day, this was one of the very best.

I didn't get to try a whole lot of the pavilion food but a few favorites were darcjoan's fantastic gazpacho aspic (PLEASE post the recipe), the pork belly stew, Octarine's Bo Ssam, Joel and Sue's matching dutch ovens of Bobotie and Malva Pudding and justjoan's blueberry buckle.

Most of all, thanks to Cathy for doing all of the organizing, everyone who contributed and, of course, to team Tiki!! Laikom & atrill for your amazing combination of design/build expertise and mad cooking skills; mbh & Iris Arbor for (wo)manning the bar like the pros you are; Tyler (best spares ever), Alex & Kevin for being so handy; Teresa for your lovely sign and lovelier egg tarts; Petite Gourmande (mmm...fried wontons), fropones (off menu lamb spares--delish), jimswside (juicy tasty chicken), BR (THAT CAKE! THOSE EGGROLLS!), and everyone else who cooked, mixed, decorated or otherwise helped out.

Can't wait til next year--we're already brainstorming ideas!

What a fun event yesterday! Thanks, to everyone who participated, for making it so great. And a special thanks to C2, for all that you do. Of all our recurring annual events, the picnic is the most special and you're the main reason it gets accomplished so wonderfully every year.

It seems like each year the offerings get better and this year's edition was no exception. I ate and drank so many wonderful things, it was almost overwhelming. At some point, one must rely on his training to get through it all.

I managed to grab a shot of Tiki Town as things were just getting rolling, though I suspect and hope that some other shots will be posted here in the next few days.
