Just to clarify, the driving directions in the first post are for coming up on 94 from the south, right? It looks to me like coming from the north, you have to get off at Cicero.

That is correct. Coming south on the Edens, exit at Cicero, go three blocks and the entrance is on the left just past Berwyn Ave.

In terms of ice, there's a Mariano's on Elston that would probably be a better bet for ice than a Popeye's. Also a liquor store in the strip mall on the southwest corner of Foster & Cicero.

I mentioned Popeye's because they all sell 10-lb bags of ice for $1 apiece (handy tip there, btw, for any summer party throwers and road trippers who were not aware of that; you don't even need to buy any food; you can just go through the drive through and ask for ice by the bag), but I will scout out the Mariano's and liquor store locations too. Thanks, Steve.

I'll be bringing a bottle of Adoboloco "Bangkok" Hot Sauce, which I mentioned in the Maui thread, to go along with my chorizo/pepper hash. I'm sure it will be good with a bunch of other stuff as well.

I'm RSVP'g for Less is More and guest (Sean and Roberta). Cathy, if you could do your name tag thing for them, that would be great. They're helping with Team Tiki and will be bringing something consumable, though not sure what yet.

Last-minute edits: My bobotie has a sambal, not a chutney (first thing to go is the... uh....).
SueF will be making Malva Pudding, which can be described as a South African delivery mechanism for sweetened condensed milk (don't put that on the label).

Both served hot from dutch ovens.

Still don't know what my offspring is bringing.

I plan to make ghivetch, a Romanian/Bulgarian harvest-time vegetable stew. I only just learned about it from a recipe in the Wall Street Journal. Apparently it can call for anywhere from 20-40 vegetables. I'll let the market be my guide tomorrow, but I promise at least a dozen.

I will be there, +1 guest (Katheryn). We will bring Chinese garlic braised pork belly and rice. Should probably keep it warm - is a crockpot feasible (outlets available?), or is a tabletop butane camp stove better? I fear the campstove would run out of fuel (I have a couple of bottles I can bring) throughout the afternoon, even if on "low" heat, or worse, be an open-flame fire hazard.

If you have an insulated cooler, it can be used to keep your food hot via useful tip. I will be using it to keep the purple rice warm tomorrow. I have begun to put a towel on top for additional heat retention.

If you use your butane camp stove, it is either on the table you bring or on the ground. The wooden benches supplied cannot be used this way. There are no electrical outlets available.

    Thanks for asking!

Good News and Bad. Work was supposed to take me to Detroit Friday night and the plan was to pick up a bunch of Koegel Wieners to make Flint style Coneys for the picnic. The bad news is my friends mom passed away and I needed to be at the wake so there will be no Michigan this weekend which means no Coneys at da picnic. But you still get me and maybe my lady. I'll try and think of something I can do last minute. Otherwise I'll text someone there when en route and ask if anything is needed. Holla.

    Hi all!

Looking at this list, I can't tell you how excited we are.

That said, I feel like I may be slightly unprepared now that I look at the list - I am bring the fairly "standard" and some what generic chicken tika masala (and not because I'm an expert at making Indian food, but rather because it's something I'd like to try to cool!), and my wife is bringing a Thai desert (the name escapes me, but it's a coconut/tapioca desert with a salty coconut cream top - edit: I think maybe it's "Sakoo Tua Dtam" in the roman character spelling).

We have no real "equipment" (we just moved here and just recently got a table [edit: I realize now this is confusing. My point is, up until a week or two ago we didn't even have a table in our apartment. i.e. we don't have much "stuff", chafing dishes, etc), so we don't have chafing dishes or anything like that. My plan was to make chapati in the morning before heading to the potluck, and wrapping it in tinfoil to keep it warm. Same with my food, I'm going to start cooking tonight and then warm in the morning before heading (I think it's better if it cooks for a while). But I just have a pot to bring food in, and I'll probably bring the rice cooker to serve rice out of (but I"ll cook right before coming).

Is this OK? Will people point and laugh at me?

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Green City Mkt spoke to me and told me to take some kale and cavelo nero and sauté it. Roast some fingerlings and butternut squash, add some bacon (will keep a sm amount w/o for Ava and co) toast some almonds, shave some parm, and dress it w/shallot-dijon vinaigrette. So I guess I'll be cooking that tomorrow am.
