Geo wrote:OK, so I finally found my Flicker password after a year or two, returned to the site, found it entirely new, and, basically, incomprehensible. The directions (?) so far as I can follow them, tell me that I have to use the direct link within the "share" folder above the picture. Unfortunately, the URL looks like this:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/73101296@N04/6595165703/

Which takes me to the page with the image, but not the image itself (which, I assume, should be a URL ending in " .jpg ") Could someone pls take me by the hand and show me how to get to the image on that page, and not the page itself?

    TIA!

    Geo

The way I do it is I right-click the image, and choose "Medium 640" from the little menu that appears. This takes me to another page with my image & all the size options above it. On this page, I right-click the image, and choose "Open image in new tab" (I use Chrome...I believe Firefox & IE have similar options). The image opens in a new tab, with a "staticflickr.com" URL that can be copied & used here. For the image you linked to above, it's this:

Well, duh, that was easy enough. Not only that I can see what the code is doing. Kühl!

    Tnx GP!

    Per Flickr Community Guidelines
"Pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr."
Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

The way that Geo has it does do it, but just having the .jpg file alone doesn't satisfy their requirement.

Flicker seems to have modified the functionality of their site, and I'm no longer able to cut-paste code for medium-sized jpegs. Suggestions for doing so, or for good alternative photo sharing sites, would be much appreciated.

You still can do it - it took me a little time to figure it out . . . It just requires you to scroll down through the image sizes, even though it may seem like you cannot do that. I found this out doing my Fat Rice post the other day.

Thanks BR, but I'm not seeing a scroll bar or any way to access different image sizes.

I can't help at the moment as I'm out of town with only my iPad (and on here the site works differently), but once you select an image and there is the default image size shown, use the down arrow on your keyboard . . . That's how I ultimately figured it out (albeit after a short struggle). I'll be of more help when I return home early next week.

Yes, I tried the arrows. Thanks for the effort. Maybe I just need a new photo sharing service...

For others having this problem, here's a description of a cumbersome but workable fix from Mike Gebert at Nitrateville:

    1. Go to the page for the photo you want. In the right hand column, click on the rectangle with an arrow pointing out of it, and click the button for HTML. If you want a different size, use the little downpointing arrow next to where this one says "Medium 500 x 394" to pick a different size.

    Image

    2. Copy and paste into the text box here, the code which will look like this:

    Image

See the part I highlighted in blue, that includes "farm"? That's the URL you want to keep, delete the rest.

    3. Then when that's all there is, highlight it and click on the Img box above the text box:

    Image

Or just type the image code around the URL as above. That will, when saved, show your image at the size you selected (up to the size limits of the board, which will resize it automatically):

Besides Flickr and sites like that, what about ICloud? That is where my photos are stored besides my phone. Will I be able to get the URL from there or is I cloud not a way to do this?

As long as images you post there are otherwise available for public viewing -- and they are .jpg files that end with the .jpg extension -- they should be linkable and viewable here in the forums.

What happened to unordered lists? They don't show bullets.
    Code: Select all

A[/*]

B[/*]

C[/*]

D[/*]

Can I have my friend for tea?[/*]
• A
    • B
    • C
    • D

You can do this when you start a new thread by clicking the Create A Poll button at the bottom-right of the screen . . .

From there, just follow the prompts. It's fairly self-explanatory. However, if you need further assistance, please let us know.
