Not sure. In my dozens of trips to Khan, this was the one and only time it ever happened. I got the feeling that haleem is a seasonal dish but I am definitely not sure of that.

c8w wrote:It probably is, at Khan's - its not a place that usually does Haleem. Some places do (Usmaniya does a fine one every day, and Sabri probably does too). But a lot of places just do Haleem during Ramadan (and some on Fridays too.. IIRC Daata Durbar is a Friday-Haleem-spot since). If it was a while ago, that might have been when you had it, Ronnie? Or was it like this month or something? (In which case it might be a Friday-item).
ronnie_suburban wrote:I had it about a month ago and really enjoyed it. Our server mentioned it to us and I was glad he did.
The last time I ate at Khan's, I also ordered karai gosht and it was also quite excellent. In the past, I had always liked that dish better at Sabri Nehari, so I rarely ordered it at Khan's. I was dining at Khan's with some friends who wanted to order some. I warned them that I thought it was not that great, but luckily, I turned out to be very wrong. I am happy to have some corroborating testimony that Khan's version has vastly improved. Now it will become part of my regular order.c8w wrote:Oh, and stopped in to Khan's last week... and their kadai-ghost was quite excellent on the day.
ronnie_suburban wrote:Wow! It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread. And I have to admit that I hadn't been to Khan in a few months but lunch there on Tuesday was nothing short of magnificent. Everything we ordered was right on the money. As such, it was especially great having a first-timer with us. I think he got to experience the place at its very best and had quite an excellent experience.
Here's the scorecard on what we ate:
Chicken Boti (2)
Broast Chicken (full)
Seekh Kabab
Frontier Chicken Rice
Daal Palak
Chana Masala
Dal Fry
Bhindi
Paratha (2)
Tilwala Naan
Onion Naan
One bit of news (at least to me)...there were signs on the windows indicating that breakfast is now being served from 9-12 every day. The menu appears limited but still, it'll be nice to have Khan available earlier in the day than 12:30 pm.

It's Ramandan, which probably impacts their hours.
c8w wrote:It is indeed... but, if Zim means what I think he does by last-Friday (ie not this Friday, but the Friday before this one)..

There is something so essentially indian about rhyming name schemes, probably the most famous being "Curry in a Hurry" in NYC. Even the michelin starred Rasoi in London has a more casual cousin known as "Urban Turban"

I wish I'd asked. Mr. Khan was there, so I should have. I hope that someone can find out more details about the breakfast menu and report back.

As far back as I can remember, at least at the current location, they *always* open later on Fridays.
Ive only seen the signs outside, which advertised Halwa-puri, Omlette-paratha etc. Will ask the next time Iam in. But, as noted earlier, Iam fairly sure they arent doing breakfast at the moment anyway, it being Ramadan (even Tahoora doesnt have their "halwa-puri" during Ramadan IIRC).

Does it appear to have new 2012 pricing in effect?
I seem to remember it being a $8.95 priced dish- anyone else recall the price of the Boti?
Khan chicken boti was $6.50 in '05Rene G wrote:I think chicken boti went for about $9 a couple years ago but it was $10.99 over six months ago.

Yes - its all LTH's fault
(the last Chicken Boti I had at Khan's, sometime last week, was actually not as good as usual either.. a little drier than typical, not near the best Ive had there. The Kadai-ghost was pretty good on the day, the naan's good but unspectacular. A good meal, but Ive had better there. Was followed by a very good kulfi at King Sweets however, so all was well with the world).
BTW, if anyone's a fan of very flavourful, tasty, spicy Biryani (but, sadly, not as overloaded with meat - either goat or chicken - as I typically prefer biryanis to be, probably due to its economical price)... but, as I say, the best-tasting flavourful/spicy biryani in the city can currently be found at "Biryanis" (of course, where else? On Devon, near California - near where the dear-departed Ambala used to be.

In the dozens of times I've been to Khan, I'd only had this once before last night. Wow! Such a great dish. It wasn't entirely tender but just chewy enough so that I could continue to extract charred, meaty, spicy flavor from it all the way through. Glad you snapped a pic Gary, or no one would have believed it.
Maybe it was the fact that I hadn't been to Khan in a few months but the entire meal was downright spectacular. The boti was a bit salty but by the time it showed up late in the meal, it almost needed to be. I initially got full, then broke through a wall and honestly, could not stop eating. This was some soul-soothing food at its best.
