From The Spice House's website: It features LTHers G Wiv and the Figs (molly & justin).

The Spice House website wrote:One of the best summer events in Chicago, this grand picnic is held every July in the lovely Lincoln Park, with the fabulous Chicago skyline as a backdrop. This beautiful venue is ideal to showcase some of Chicago’s finest chefs. All of their dishes are prepared using the bounty of the market.

Every year more chefs join the BBQ to show off the best of Chicago's culinary talent. This year we will have more than 50 chefs providing dishes. In addition to food, locally made beer, wine, and beverages will be available.

Tickets are available here and at the Green City Market website; please note that all ticket sales must be made in advance. No tickets will be sold at the event, so make sure you get yours in time. You don't want to miss the delicious food and drink, music, and the beauty of Lincoln park on a summer evening. Tickets are $60 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Children under 5 are free.

A limited number of VIP tickets are available only through the Green City Market office by calling (773) 880-1266. There are two levels of VIP ticket this year: The Heritage level, which is a reserved table for 10 with the services of a waiter, and the Heirloom level, for a table for 10 with no waiter. Heritage tickets are $2500 per table and Heirloom are $1500 per table.

This event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine, so be prepared for inclement weather. Dogs and other animals are not allowed.

The following prominent Chicago chefs will be participating in the 2009 Summer BBQ:

Thanks, aschie, for the heads up. I bought my tix today and I cannot wait. IMO, this is the finest annual food event that Chicago has to offer -- and at $60 per person, it's a relative steal.

    See ya' there! :D

Does this event usually sell out? If so, how far ahead of time? I'm not sure if I'm going to be in town but I don't want to miss it.

In previous years, it has sold out at the gate. As for if or when it will sell out this year, the only thing we know for sure is that it won't happen at the gate, since only advance sales are being made. If it were me, though, I'd lock in and if my schedule subsequently made it impossible for me to attend, I'd try to find a friend who could use the tickets. My guess is that the 'advance only' policy will spur a sell-out but I'm wrong on a fairly regular basis.

I've been the past two years and definitely plan on going again this year. For the quality and variety of food on offer, the price tag is a definite deal IMHO.

Thanks for the heads up on the tickets (which I've already purchased). This is, in my view, the real Taste of Chicago, and the best food event of the year.

out of curiosity, how would you know that? I did get my tickets, which are numbered in the 400's, but sometimes places choose to start at 100, 200, or some other arbitrary number.

My Sherlock Holmes mojo was off today. Thanks. I do suspect that she was genuinely trying to do us a favor by providing the information, though I would have appreciated more upfront disclosure of her affiliation.

I think, in various posts, Portia has been pretty upfront about her affiliation with GCM and Heritage Prairie Market & Farm. I don't think it's necessary to repeat that in every post.

Full disclosure: Portia is my cousin.

    Thank you Cousin-

I am on the Board of Directors for Chicago Green City Market as well as part of the Chef BBQ team this year. This is the earliest we have had tickets go on sale. Last year we did sell out before the event and we are quite sure that this will happen again.
So, my advice is that is you plan on going to the event to get your tickets early.

I hope my link to Portia's bio did not seem to suggest that I viewed that her posting here without disclosing her name was in any way underhanded; I have seen her post by name elsewhere on LTH but it was easier to link to the GCM website than try to track down one of those threads.

    Matt,

Not underhanded in the least, I know Portia, know she is a GCM board member and consider her a friend. I just do not think that people should be expected to know and/or remember the cv of everyone who posts on LTHForum.

As you said, nothing underhanded by Portia, just a minor, and very minor at that, oversight.

    Enjoy,

Yeah - the pork can be a little overwhelming. My other observation was how prevalent goat cheese was. I went with a friend who will eat just about anything, but has a strong aversion to the taste of goat's milk. I can't remember how it kept coming up, but I remember time and time again she couldn't sample the offerings to the point that it became a joke as we went from stall to stall.

I just checked. No problem clicking on "Buy" or proceeding to check out.

Don't know if it matters, but I'm using Firefox.

Yikes! We're still trying to figure out what to serve at this year's BBQ (our first year participating). I'd love to get something out of the pork realm. Chicken? Dessert?

One of my least pleasant memories of the GCM BBQ a couple years back was getting served severely undercooked chicken. So if you do go with chicken, make sure you check every piece :)
