Wow, I made it into the news. And I didn't do anything stupid either!! My mother would be so proud of me! Is this a "web only" article? I don't recall seeing it in the paper this morning.

I assumed, correctly, or not, that it was part of the food section, since today is Wednesday.

Indeed, it was cover story in the food section.

    Dear Bill,

This is a bit late, but I've been meaning to write to say I really enjoyed the article you wrote on recipe web sites. Even though I enjoy the benefit of a lot of exchange of ideas and information on the LTH Forum site, you brought some welcome new information to my attention. Thanks very much.

Just thought of another source, in case folks are still referencing this thread: Farmer's organizations. The ones you probably think of right off the bat are the National Cattleman's Beef Association (e.g. "Beef - it's what's for dinner) and the National Pork Board (The other white meat,) but nearly every food that's produced or processed has a website with recipes: Beans, Canned foods, Tomatoes, Aquaculture Assoc (crayfish and fish recipes). To find them, do a google search on whatever food you're looking for, followed by "board" or "association."

Also a bit late, but williams-sonoma.com has never let me down; they have a broad variety of recipes that range from 3-day adventures to 3-ingredient 15-minute meals.

I was going through some old boxes, and found a website (unfortunately now defunct) that had a lot of the features I mentioned earlier. Maybe they'll bring it back up at some point, but the website was http://www.cleverchef.com.

Epicurious must have been reading this thread, because they have a new widget with the "my recipe box" feature: a custom grocery list. I just saw this and figured it out: previously, I'd only used the folder feature to organize my recipe box into categories, but it never occurred to me to do it for a menu (duh.) Now if they'd just offer recipe scaling...

So, you make a folder containing all the recipes for your menu, open it, then click the "grocery list" button at the top of the folder. If you click the "combined list by grocery aisle" tab, you'll get a grocery list with all the same ingredients combined into one amount (though it isn't smart enough to know things like lemon zest and lemon juice come from the same product, so be a little careful) Pantry staples are italicized (although this somehow didn't work when I tried it for our Christmas menu, unless they don't consider flour to be a staple.)

You can add your own recipes to your recipe book and import them from other sources, too, and then make one big grocery list - you could even plan menus and shopping for a whole week, something I've been thinking about trying...

Pucca, I thought of your request for nutritional value information: I googled just such a thing and found http://www.nutritiondata.com/, which has a recipe calculator that seems to work pretty well. It's not ideal: adding ingredients is a bit klunky - you have to search their database and then the value is in cups, tablespoons or teaspoons but the amount is in whole numbers so you have to figure the decimals, but it calculated out an awful lot of information for the recipe I plugged in.

They say something about being linked to epicurious, but I couldn't get that to work.

Wondering if anyone has recent recipe web sites they like. My current favorite is 'Hot Thai Kitchen' https://hot-thai-kitchen.com/

She has a video showing how to make every recipe on the site.
