What a blast!
The picnic is always one of a very few "can't miss" events of the year for me but this was one was really special. From the construction of
Little
Tiki
Hut (thanks to Teresa for coming up with the best name) to seeing all of the wonderful, creative food and beverages displayed there to enjoying all of the delicious things everyone, Tiki and not, brought on a picture perfect day, this was one of the very best.
I didn't get to try a whole lot of the pavilion food but a few favorites were darcjoan's fantastic gazpacho aspic (PLEASE post the recipe), the pork belly stew, Octarine's Bo Ssam, Joel and Sue's matching dutch ovens of Bobotie and Malva Pudding and justjoan's blueberry buckle.
Most of all, thanks to Cathy for doing all of the organizing, everyone who contributed and, of course, to team Tiki!! Laikom & atrill for your amazing combination of design/build expertise and mad cooking skills; mbh & Iris Arbor for (wo)manning the bar like the pros you are; Tyler (best spares ever), Alex & Kevin for being so handy; Teresa for your lovely sign and lovelier egg tarts; Petite Gourmande (mmm...fried wontons), fropones (off menu lamb spares--delish), jimswside (juicy tasty chicken), BR (THAT CAKE! THOSE EGGROLLS!), and everyone else who cooked, mixed, decorated or otherwise helped out.
Can't wait til next year--we're already brainstorming ideas!
