Is anyone aware of local sources for Lyle's Golden Syrup and Lye's Black Treacle? I can order them online, but I was hoping to avoid the shipping costs.

    Thanks.

Treasure Island in Wilmette is where I have purchased Lyle's. They have a whole British section with things like HP sauce, Heinz baked beans and spotted dick in a can.

You might give them a call. And while you are there, make a stop at Zier's meat market a block south of TI on Ridge. Their meat is ronnie_suburban endorsed.

I'm fairly sure you can substitute (they might even be the same thing) Steen's Cane Syrup, which I've found at the Chopping Block in Lincoln Square.

I've bought Lyle's at several Whole Foods. And it makes a huge difference in gingerbread.

Purchased a bottle today for $4.79 at Cost Plus on Sheffield at North Ave. Did not see the Black Treacle there.

I saw Lyle's Golden syrup at Woodman's today, and I would think the Meijer store would have it, as they have quite a good international food section.

They are a wholesaler who have a closeout sale several times a year. It is still going on until Saturday afternoon. The next one is sometime in December. The are on Elston just north of Fullerton.

I just saw this mentioned in the Fresh Farms thread, but I also just found a recipe for homemade golden syrup that I thought I would share.

Time to resuscitate this thread. I have no problem locating their Golden Syrup but can't put my hands on black treacle. Anyone know of a local source? As Jyoti said in her original post, I can order online, but I'd just as soon support a local supplier, if one is out there.
