A couple of fambly members are on a hunt for a good hot buttered rum in the northern suburbs (Deerfield, Libertyville, thereabouts). I did a search and found only one mention of hot buttered rum -- at Mitchell's Fish Market in Glenview. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Yeah -- it's really easy to make. I drink it often during the winter, but at home. It's just butter, cinnamon, sugar, hot water, and rum.

If you want to drink it out, it's easy enough to make that I'm sure most restaurants with bars would be able to accommodate you, if you asked.

I'll take recommendations for just about anywhere. I hear the Violet Hour has one. Other than the now defunct Come Back Inn, I have no idea where to go. Most bartenders give me a look like I'm speaking a foreign language when I ask for one, and I'm not cool enough for trendy bars, so where else can a gal get her hot, buttery drink on?

Not in the Burbs, but Trader Vic's has reopened. At the old place, they used to make thier own HBR mix. Maybe they still do.

Not in the burbs, but Scofflaw serves a mean hot buttered rum. It's an off-menu special but the bartender mentioned it will be in rotation 'when it is freezing.' Mmmmm butter, not overly sweet, served with sliced orange. One cup was perfectly balanced, the next was boozy. Loved them both.

It is on the menu. I was just there Saturday. We didn't try it, but we did enjoy the drinks we ordered. I had a Swizzle #3 which had passion fruit and mint among the ingredients.
