I just ran across this State Extension office fact-sheet about dealing with tomato problems. It appears to be nicely done and most, if not all, should apply to us in Illinois.

Can you explain more? Is this your website?

... no it's not my website. It was created by Gayla Trail who just happens to live in Toronto ... I've never met her but am hoping to hear her present in February at a Toronto Horticultural Society Meeting. The YYG site has been going for quite a few years - gardeners from all over the world exchange information. The info I received last year during my first year of gardening in a new city allotment plot was invaluable. People post questions and receive answers much like this. I grew all my plants from seeds and got step-by-step help in their grow along forums.

I created a blog detailing my adventures last year ... now that the gardening year is over (after growing food and canning it), I thought this site looked interesting ... just thought I'd share ...

Cool, thanks for sharing. I anxiously await next gardening season. I’m already trying to decide what to grow!

The Organic Gardening site has many articles that are helpful. One of my favorites is its yearly list of favorite varieties and where to get them. While I like trying new anything, tomatoes particularly intrigue me. There are just so many to try! Having a list of what has grown well, has high yields, handles disease well, has excellent flavor and taste characteristics, etc. is a great start.

When you grow seedlings there is a bit more work involved than picking up the plants at Home Depot.

Here are some resources that can help:

These about hardening off your plants, something you need to do about a week to ten days before you plant outside. #1, #2.

Here are some germination charts and also has other info about general seed starting.

More info about seed starting and germination.

This site includes information about potting mixes, germination, how to plant, how to transplant, etc.

Not sure if the whole site is as nice as this page about lathyrus odoratus, but this page is wonderful, including a video of how to pre-sprout the seeds in the kitchen.

I started doing some searches on this Fine Gardening site. I am not sure if it includes more than flowers, but this search tool is very helpful for flowers (which I interplant with my veggies for interest).

Another extensive plant (flower in this section) guide, though maybe not as much as the prior one. They also have a veggie one in another area of the site. It has less info about the plants, and more info from people who have grown that variety.
