Blueberry Plants

This is my first summer with a yard, and I am interested in doing my first real garden. One of the elements I am planning on planting is a blueberry bush. Does anyone have any insight on growing blueberries?

Blueberries have many varieties, most likely including one or more that will like it where you are. This is a very good nursery.

One caution (well, two, really): blueberries demand an acid soil, with a low pH. You'll probably have to treat your soil to get there. Best talk to your county extension agent about how to do it. Secondly, blueberries are much beloved of birds. You'll most likely have to net them in order to get any crop.

I was growing several New Jersey Blueberry bushes that were doing well until they were stolen. Yes stolen. I went out one day to water and they were gone, just a small hole left. My wife said maybe the lawncare guys thought it was a weed. I replied then why are all the weeds still there. unreal. Anyways, my biggest problem was birds. They would flock on the bushes and strip them bare. The surviving berries were rather tasty though.
