My friend's mom just got back from Mexico and brought with her a container of jamaica (hibiscus) juice concentrate for making drinks. Now I want to get more of it, because it has a great flavor - tangy like cranberry juice, and not too sweet. I have tried to find it in three Mexican grocery stores to no avail. Anybody know where I can get it? If not, guess I will try making it from the dried flowers, which are more readily available...

    Thanks!

You might try La Guadalupana ("La casa de la masa") at 3215 W. 26th Street (phone 773-TAMALES, according to Rene G's old CH post on 26th Street!). I know they have horchata concentrate there, so they may well carry the jamaica concentrate also.

I don't live your area, but if you have a "Smart and Final" near you, you may want to give them a call. I have purchased jamaica and tamarindo concentrates there. I have used both in BBQ sauce experiments.

    Cindy,

I can only assume you tried the very three Mexican grocery stores that do not carry Jamiaca concentrate :?:

However, I think you need to keep trying. I would try little village, but there are probably some stores closer. I know also the juice drink (actually a tisane) and the dried flowers are sold at Maxwell market. You might inquire from one of the vendors where they get the concentrate or if they make it fresh.

I believe I purchased concentrate once at Jimmenez on Western near Fullerton, but I assume many more have it.

Thanks for all the tips. I finally found some at Supermercado Morelia on N. Clark St. Guess maybe the stores I tried were too small to carry it or something....
