Hi,
I used to have a personal campaign to get Dr. Pepper available everywhere I patronized. I would simply ask for a Dr. Pepper, then 'learn' they did not have it. The door was now open for my personal plea to get Dr. Pepper in the restaurant. I don't believe anyone ever put Dr. Pepper on the menu because of me, but it sure did lead to some amusing conversations. (I think the people at Korean BBQ restaurant had no clue what I was talking about 20 years ago)
The worst fake Dr. Pepper originated with Dr. Pepper itself. Their original Diet Dr. Pepper could not have tasted further from the original than it did. I drank it anyway because of my undying love of Dr. Pepper, though it really reminded me of gasoline. Ah, the sacrifices of love. The reformulated Diet Dr. Pepper is much closer to the original, though like all diet to sugar pop comparisions, the original (corn) sugar tastes much better.
I am just looking over at a full cane sugar bottle of Dr. Pepper gifted to me by SteveZ. I still have not found the good-enough occasion to open and sample.
So far I have resisted trying Dr. Pibb or any of the fakes listed. I'm just not that desperate.
Thanks for the link and the opportunity to travel down memory lane.
Regards,
