I am trying to remember the name of a beer garden located at 2024 N. Halsted that was very popular in the late 1970 s before BaBaReba, many years later, used the space as it outdoor dining patio.
It served small burgers and delicious home-made potato chips and offered in the afternoon and at "cocktail time" various decently-priced wines by the glass.
Any suggestion of how this place was called? TKS.

I believe you're thinking of Otto's, whose beer garden was one of Chicago's great outdoor urban spaces. I'm a bit busy now, but will try to say more about Otto's later.

Bingo. Thanks René G. As a matter of fact I was quite certain that you would be the one to have the proper answer to my question.

This thread got moved to "Something to Drink," but I'm not sure that's the best place for it. I'll quote the beginning of the Otto's entry from The Great Chicago Bar & Saloon Guide (1978) in support.

Dennis B McCarthy wrote:Otto's is a fine example of the beer and burger bar made good. It has gone through several transitions since it opened, and now it's become more of a semi-elegant restaurant than a traditional tavern. There are 2½ dining rooms, the latest being a glass walled greenhouse room with a garden/art gallery interior lit by skylights. But while I recommend it as a place to eat, these are restaurant affairs. For the drinker, the place has whittled down to a small bar, which is primarily a service bar for the diners. The feeling of barroom social life is pretty well drummed out of the place in order to make room for the food.

But in the summer months, Otto's has the best outdoor beer garden in Chicago. ...
