Given the branding, I thought this was a Finkelman/Longman enterprise, right?
http://www.rhinehall.com/So, I bought a bottle of Rhine Hall's Oaked Apple Brandy, which RH likens to Calvaldos; you're not going to confuse this stuff with Domaine Dupont, or even Laird's bonded. I suspect that Rhine Hall ages this brandy in small barrels a la Few or Tuthilltown Spirits, which ought to account for the wintergreen, woody flavors that dominate it. I'm no great fan of these flavors, but the underlying juice seems very good, indeed, so I'm keen to taste the un-aged offering. I wonder if they'll make something with spruce tips come springtime? I'd love to have a local alternative to Clear Creek's excellent
douglas fir eau de vie.
