My dad used to drink Ballantine, and everyone I've asked who's at least my age remembers it. Here's a great story about Pabst’s Master Brewer’s efforts to bring back the original Ballantine IPA, very possibly the first IPA brewed in the US, as far back as 1878.

Only if they have rebuses on the underside of the bottlecaps.

Ooooh, I got the first one! "Vowel flight lodging the palm."

(Actually, I remember them being a tad more difficult than those two. Still, as long as they're there.)

LOL ~ Maybe they get tougher, as you open more bottles, to reveal the puzzles.

The rebuses were under the crowns of every beer bottled by Falstaff Brwg. Corp., including popular-priced Falstaff.
When we ran the Annual Beer Tasting at the United Soccer Boosters' Convention, I never asked Miller or Budweiser, but I did ask Pabst (I asked Stroh, which, when it responded, declined, & G. Heileman, which never responded.), and it took part each year until it actually shut down its own breweries. So we usually had Ballantine IPA. (I specifically asked for it. Other beers requested, and furnished were Andeker & Old Tankard Ale.) 8)

Ha! What a coincidence. I am watching an old episode of Frasier in which Frasier is trying to talk his dad into taking a trip to Europe. Tells him about the fancy imported beer he can drink there. His dad grouses, "I only drink Ballentine's." Frasier says, "Dad, in Europe, Ballentine's is imported beer."

An supposedly complete set of the under-the-cap rebuses (plus answers) can be found here.
