The recent discussions of lambics and shiner bock have brought to mind one of my recent discoveries in the Chicago beer universe; Sam’s Wine and Spirits now carries beers by Hair of the Dog, one of the many incredible brewers from the Pacific Northwest. Sam’s claims that theirs is the exclusive Chicago supply. I return from every trip back to my ancestral homeland – Portland, Oregon – with a sampling of great beers that are unavailable here. I can now check Hair of the Dog off the list and bring back more from Fish Brewing Company or Stone Brewing’s intensely hopped “Bastard” beers.
Sam's is carrying the following:
Adam - an Ale.
Doggie Claws - a Barley Wine.
Fred - an American Strong Ale.
Rose - a Trippel.
These beers are all “big” and therefore not necessarily suited for the hot and humid summer days that are now upon us. But they are incredible brews; among the best that American craft brewing has to offer. Adam, Fred, or Rose can work on a cool night.
