Nice! If you get a chance, give Basil Hayden's and Pappy Van Winkle (15-year if you can get your hands on it, or older if you're feeling spendy...the Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 year is really good too, and quite reasonably priced) a shot.

But Jim, within your budget may I politely suggest some other delicous bourbons (Binny's prices): Very Old Barton, 100 proof at $12.99 (lower proofs even cheaper); Old Grand Dad, 100 proof at $19.99 (recently $15.99 at other chain stores); Old Weller Antique, 107 proof at $19.99 (the newest bottling a "no age statement" but still 7 years, is outstanding). If you prefer 80 proof, as Beam white is, just cut an ounce and a half of 100 proof with .375 of an ounce of water.

"Sweet tea" made from leftover tea with ginger syrup stirred in and left to chill in the refrigerator.

Cathy, here in the South what you have described as "sweet tea" would earn some serious stares. Ain't no ginger in tea heah.

Back to the question, I'm having some cream sherry before dinner, then after dinner some Booker's bourbon with water.

Tomorrow I'll be cracking open a 12er of Sam Adams Noble Pils.

Elmer T. Lee. Lots of pepper and spice but still light on its feet. Dangerously drinkable even with a tummy full of pork neck bones.

As someone else said, Elmer T. Lee. I'd also suggest Buffalo Trace. Both are cheap and highly drinkable.

Tomato juice again . . . but this time with horseradish, sambal, worcestershire sauce, Frank's hot sauce, a generous squeeze of lime and some freshly-ground black pepper mixed in. Much better this time. :)

Tomorrow, a cocktail of Pellegrino and pomegranate/cranberry juice, both of which were dropped off by a kind friend! :)

As for inexpensive bourbons, I really like the Eagle Rare 10-year, which runs anywhere from $24-$30/bottle, depending on where you get it. That's in the same ballpark as the Buffalo Trace, which I also enjoy. Also in the same price range is the Evan Williams Single Barrel, which is also a very good one for the money.

I love Buffalo Trace. It's what got me thinking that there was something to this bourbon stuff.
Eagle Rare has one of the prettiest aromas I've ever hit off liquor. I wish I liked it. It just doesn't mesh with my palate, which is still developing for bourbon. I'm jealous of anyone who enjoys Eagle Rare. Definitely worth trying once if you haven't, just to see.

I tried Flying Dog Winter Ale last night and enjoyed it very much.
I hate kettle cooked chips. It takes too much effort to crunch through them.

And just for the record my suggestions were geared towards being similar in price and class to Beam White. Being a bit obsessed with this beverage I could post forever about great bourbons but there are other forums for that.
